En las compilaciones nocturnas, en las que se basar\u00e1 la versi\u00f3n de Firefox 94, se ha agregado un cambio que incluye por defecto un nuevo backend de renderizado para entornos gr\u00e1ficos que utilizan el protocolo X11. Este nuevo backend destaca por utilizar EGL para la salida de gr\u00e1ficos de interfaz en lugar de GLX. El backend es compatible con los controladores OpenGL abiertos Mesa 21.x y los controladores propietarios NVIDIA 470.x. Los controladores OpenGL propietarios de AMD a\u00fan no son compatibles. <\/p>\n

El uso de EGL resuelve problemas con los controladores gfx y permite ampliar la gama de dispositivos para los cuales hay disponible aceleraci\u00f3n de video y WebGL. Anteriormente, para activar el nuevo backend para X11 se requer\u00eda un inicio con la variable de entorno MOZ_X11_EGL, tras lo cual Webrender y los componentes de composici\u00f3n OpenGL se cambiaban para utilizar EGL. El nuevo backend se ha preparado separando el backend DMABUF, que originalmente se cre\u00f3 para Wayland y permite la salida directa de cuadros en la memoria GPU, la cual puede reflejarse en el framebuffer EGL y representarse como una textura al renderizar los elementos de la p\u00e1gina web.
