Tavis Ormandy, investigador de seguridad de Google, port\u00f3 por inter\u00e9s para funcionar en Linux la hoja de c\u00e1lculo Lotus 1-2-3, lanzada en 1988, tres a\u00f1os antes de la aparici\u00f3n de Linux. El puerto se basa en la reutilizaci\u00f3n de archivos ejecutables para UNIX, encontrados en un archivo de warez en uno de los BBS. Lo interesante de este trabajo es que el port se realiz\u00f3 a nivel de c\u00f3digo m\u00e1quina sin usar emuladores o m\u00e1quinas virtuales. Como resultado, se obtuvo un archivo ejecutable que puede ejecutarse en Linux sin capas adicionales. <\/p>\n

Durante el proceso de portado se adapt\u00f3 la interfaz de llamadas del sistema Linux, se redirigieron las llamadas a glibc, se reemplazaron funciones incompatibles e integr\u00f3 un controlador alternativo para salida en terminal. Tambi\u00e9n se a\u00f1adi\u00f3 un bypass de verificaci\u00f3n de licencia, pero Tavis posee una copia en caja de Lotus 1-2-3 para MS-DOS y tiene derecho legal a usar el producto. La creaci\u00f3n del puerto no es el primer experimento de Tavis para ejecutar Lotus 1-2-3 en Linux; anteriormente, hab\u00eda acompa\u00f1ado un controlador especial para DOSEMU que permite ejecutar la versi\u00f3n DOS de Lotus 1-2-3 en terminales modernos. Ahora se ha logrado ejecutar Lotus 1-2-3 en Linux sin el uso de un emulador.
