Los desarrolladores del proyecto Chromium han anunciado su intenci\u00f3n de implementar en el navegador el soporte de la tecnolog\u00eda Web Monetization, que permite realizar micropagos autom\u00e1ticamente a los propietarios de sitios web por la visualizaci\u00f3n de su contenido. Se prev\u00e9 que la tecnolog\u00eda pueda ser utilizada para monetizar sitios en lugar de mostrar publicidad, como un an\u00e1logo de las propinas en l\u00ednea o para ofrecer acceso pago selectivo al contenido sin necesidad de suscripci\u00f3n. Se espera que el primer prototipo de la implementaci\u00f3n de Web Monetization se incluya en el lanzamiento de Chrome 127, programado para el 23 de julio. <\/p>\n

Por ejemplo, los sitios que utilizan Web Monetization pueden ofrecer acceso a todo el contenido de pago tan pronto como el usuario acepte los t\u00e9rminos, sin necesidad de un pago por adelantado. Despu\u00e9s de que el usuario vea, por ejemplo, un video de pago, el navegador iniciar\u00e1 autom\u00e1ticamente una microtransacci\u00f3n de pago sin distraer al usuario. Otro ejemplo del uso de Web Monetization es la organizaci\u00f3n de donaciones voluntarias por contenido \u00fatil; si el usuario desea apoyar ciertos sitios, puede configurar el env\u00edo autom\u00e1tico de peque\u00f1os pagos al propietario del recurso con cada visita al sitio. <\/p>\n

En el caso m\u00e1s sencillo, para habilitar Web Monetization en un sitio, solo se debe agregar un elemento 'link' con la propiedad 'rel=\"monetization\"' y especificar un enlace a su billetera para recibir transferencias. El usuario solo necesita configurar su billetera para este sitio, tras lo cual el navegador comenzar\u00e1 autom\u00e1ticamente a realizar las transferencias que el usuario haya determinado. Web Monetization no permite que el sitio establezca una cantidad de pago, sino que solo permite declarar la disposici\u00f3n a aceptar pagos. El usuario elige la cantidad del pago, la frecuencia de pagos y si el sitio en cuesti\u00f3n puede recibir pagos. <\/p>\n

Con Web Monetization se pueden utilizar cualquier billetera que sea compatible con la API de Open Payments (soportada por billeteras de varios servicios financieros, como Gatehub y Fynbos). Para realizar micropagos se utiliza el protocolo Interledger (ILP). El acceso a la billetera se proporciona a trav\u00e9s del protocolo GNAP (Grant Negotiation and Authorization Protocol), que permite al propietario de la billetera gestionar espec\u00edficamente los permisos otorgados a las aplicaciones que interact\u00faan con la billetera.
