Se cumplen 40 a\u00f1os desde que Robert Sheffler anunci\u00f3 la creaci\u00f3n del protocolo X Window System. Desde el lanzamiento de X1 hasta X11, el protocolo avanz\u00f3 en apenas tres a\u00f1os, despu\u00e9s de lo cual el estado de X11 se estabiliz\u00f3 y con el tiempo solo ha crecido en extensiones, sin cambiar su esencia. Por ejemplo, entre las extensiones que se presentaron en su momento est\u00e1n posibilidades comunes como XVideo, X Font Server, XKB, Xinerama, XCB, Multi-Pointer X, Present, DRI2, DRI3, RandR, X Input, etc. En 2011 surgi\u00f3 la iniciativa de crear el protocolo X12, pero no avanz\u00f3 m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de discusiones, y toda la actividad en el desarrollo del subsistema gr\u00e1fico se centr\u00f3 en el avance del protocolo Wayland.<\/p>\n

El 19 de junio tambi\u00e9n se considera el cumplea\u00f1os del proyecto FreeBSD, que cumpli\u00f3 31 a\u00f1os. El 19 de junio de 1993, sobre la base de un conjunto no oficial de parches para 386BSD, se cre\u00f3 el fork 4.3BSD, con el objetivo de desarrollar un sistema operativo r\u00e1pido, estable y confiable para sistemas con procesadores i386.
