Se ha publicado el primer lanzamiento experimental del cliente de mensajer\u00eda instant\u00e1nea Pidgin 3.0 (2.90), que permite trabajar simult\u00e1neamente en varias redes con diferentes protocolos y alternar entre chats mediante pesta\u00f1as. Para ampliar la funcionalidad y a\u00f1adir soporte para nuevos protocolos, se pueden utilizar complementos. Las versiones estar\u00e1n preparadas en formato Flatpak (por ahora solo est\u00e1 disponible el archivo con el c\u00f3digo). La segunda versi\u00f3n de prueba de Pidgin 3.0 est\u00e1 prevista para el 31 de marzo. <\/p>\n

La versi\u00f3n experimental propuesta de Pidgin 3.0 tiene calidad de pre-alfa y no est\u00e1 destinada para uso diario. La rama Pidgin 3 se ha estado desarrollando desde 2011, y antes de eso se discuti\u00f3 durante tres a\u00f1os a nivel de conceptos e ideas. Inicialmente, se planeaba lanzar Pidgin 3.0 a finales de 2016, pero el desarrollo se ha prolongado. La migraci\u00f3n del proyecto al sistema de tipos GObject result\u00f3 ser m\u00e1s laboriosa de lo esperado. Por ejemplo, surgieron problemas imprevistos para rehacer el c\u00f3digo para manejar se\u00f1ales debido a la falta de la funcionalidad necesaria en GLib. <\/p>\n

Los desarrolladores tambi\u00e9n intentaron usar WebKit para mostrar el historial de chats, pero luego abandonaron esta idea en favor de crear su propia biblioteca para manejar la entrada y el historial de chats. Se dedic\u00f3 mucho tiempo a mejorar la API: la API en Pidgin 2 se basaba en los antiguos protocolos AIM\/ICQ, no permit\u00eda identificar mensajes individuales y no soportaba caracter\u00edsticas como reacciones, discusiones en \u00e1rbol, edici\u00f3n y eliminaci\u00f3n de mensajes. Entre los cambios en Pidgin 3 se destacan la migraci\u00f3n a GTK4 y Adwaita, la definici\u00f3n de elementos de interfaz mediante GTK Builder XML, el uso del sistema de tipos GObject, una nueva biblioteca de widgets Talkatu para mostrar el historial de chats, una reestructuraci\u00f3n completa de la API, el uso del sistema de compilaci\u00f3n Meson, la implementaci\u00f3n de GPlugin para el manejo de complementos, el almacenamiento del historial de chats en SQLite y la migraci\u00f3n de la configuraci\u00f3n a GSettings. <\/p>\n

Los cambios en la interfaz incluyen la suspensi\u00f3n del cliente de consola Finch (no se descarta su posible regreso en el futuro) y la unificaci\u00f3n de la lista de contactos y las ventanas de chat en una sola. En la rama 3.0, solo se admite el protocolo IRCv3, pero se est\u00e1 trabajando en nuevas implementaciones de los protocolos XMPP y Bonjour. La interfaz requiere un refinamiento adicional. Esta nueva rama no es compatible con Pidgin 2 y los plugins creados anteriormente, pero puede instalarse junto a las instalaciones existentes de Pidgin.
