Kamil \u0141ysik, quien trabaja en NVIDIA, present\u00f3 en la conferencia XDC 2026 un informe en el que comparti\u00f3 los resultados de pruebas sobre la latencia de salida en entornos GNOME 49.7 (mutter) y KDE 6.7.4 (kwin) utilizando X.Org Server y Wayland. El c\u00f3digo utilizado en el estudio se public\u00f3 bajo la licencia MIT. <\/p>\n

En general, las conclusiones indican que las diferencias en la capacidad de respuesta no son significativas y es dif\u00edcil se\u00f1alar un ganador. Seg\u00fan Kamil, el mayor impacto en las latencias proviene del procesamiento de entrada y la organizaci\u00f3n de la salida en el monitor. Se destac\u00f3 especialmente la tecnolog\u00eda de cambio adaptativo de la frecuencia de actualizaci\u00f3n de la pantalla (VRR), cuya activaci\u00f3n mejor\u00f3 notablemente la capacidad de respuesta. Tambi\u00e9n se mencion\u00f3 la soluci\u00f3n a los problemas de latencia que surgieron en pruebas anteriores con XWayland; en la nueva base de c\u00f3digo de XWayland no se han registrado latencias adicionales. <\/p>\n

El m\u00e9todo propuesto para evaluar la capacidad de respuesta de la interfaz se asemeja a un estudio realizado en julio por Marc Net. Al igual que en la investigaci\u00f3n anterior, se utiliz\u00f3 un dispositivo de hardware especializado basado en el microcontrolador ESP32-S3 para medir con precisi\u00f3n el tiempo desde que se presiona una tecla hasta que cambia la informaci\u00f3n en la pantalla, conectado a un fotodiodo que registra el cambio de brillo en un punto de la pantalla, y se simul\u00f3 el funcionamiento de un teclado USB. Se utilizaron la tarjeta gr\u00e1fica NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 y el monitor LG 27GN950 para la salida. El sistema contaba con el n\u00facleo Linux 7.1.7 y un conjunto de controladores propietarios de NVIDIA 610.57.04.
