VeraCrypt se destaca por sustituir el algoritmo RIPEMD-160 utilizado en TrueCrypt por SHA-512 y SHA-256, aumentar el n\u00famero de iteraciones de hashing, simplificar el proceso de compilaci\u00f3n para Linux y macOS, y resolver problemas identificados durante la auditor\u00eda del c\u00f3digo fuente de TrueCrypt. El c\u00f3digo desarrollado por el proyecto VeraCrypt se distribuye bajo la licencia Apache 2.0, mientras que las modificaciones de TrueCrypt siguen siendo proporcionadas bajo la licencia TrueCrypt License 3.0.
