Buenas tardes, estimados
\nEra jueves por la tarde y uno de nuestros administradores deb\u00eda cambiar el tama\u00f1o del disco en una de las m\u00e1quinas virtuales KVM. Parec\u00eda una tarea trivial, pero podr\u00eda llevar a la p\u00e9rdida de datos por completo\u2026 Y as\u00ed\u2026 toda la historia est\u00e1 debajo del corte.

\nComo ya dije, por la tarde del jueves (parece que no hab\u00eda lluvia), uno de nuestros administradores decidi\u00f3 realizar una tarea que se hab\u00eda pospuesto desde hace tiempo y aumentar el tama\u00f1o del sistema de archivos dentro de la m\u00e1quina virtual. KVM<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Previamente ya hab\u00eda aumentado el tama\u00f1o del disco de 14 GB a 60 GB y el administrador solo necesitaba aumentar el tama\u00f1o del sistema de archivos dentro de la m\u00e1quina virtual.<\/p>\n

Alrededor de la medianoche, el administrador env\u00eda un mensaje preguntando si la partici\u00f3n debe ser extendida o primaria\u2026 En respuesta, le escrib\u00ed que deb\u00eda hacerlo como estaba antes en la propia m\u00e1quina virtual. <\/p>\n

El tiempo pasaba\u2026 y el administrador env\u00eda un mensaje diciendo que le aparecieron errores indicando que no pod\u00eda ampliar la partici\u00f3n\u2026 y dej\u00f3 de montarse\u2026 ya eran las 2 de la ma\u00f1ana.<\/p>\n

Le escrib\u00ed que no hiciera nada m\u00e1s y que dejara la m\u00e1quina virtual en paz, y yo mismo fui a hacer una copia de la imagen del disco VM, nombr\u00e1ndola vmname_bad.<\/p>\n

Todo se complicaba a\u00fan m\u00e1s, ya que el administrador no hizo un snapshot ni copi\u00f3 el esquema antes de sus acciones\u2026 Con esta informaci\u00f3n, se podr\u00eda haber revertido y probado de nuevo.<\/p>\n

Por la ma\u00f1ana, con la mente fresca, levanto la m\u00e1quina virtual con el mismo OS (Debian 9) y conecto el disco. A trav\u00e9s de fdisk veo que este disco ya ha sido ampliado a 60 GB y la partici\u00f3n\u2026 que est\u00e1 un poco da\u00f1ada. <\/p>\n

Intento, a partir de las capturas de pantalla que proporcion\u00f3 el administrador, encontrar el esquema anterior, pero desafortunadamente en vano. Intento ajustar los valores a trav\u00e9s de fdisk, pero lamentablemente todos los intentos fallaron.<\/p>\n

Como fdisk no puede ayudarme\u2026 invoco la ayuda de parted. Cargamos parted \u2014 elimino la antigua partici\u00f3n rm 2 y sabiendo los valores aproximados del esquema, hago un rescue \u2014 indico el valor inicial y final donde podr\u00eda estar la partici\u00f3n. Un breve momento y parted encuentra la partici\u00f3n y ofrece ingresar la informaci\u00f3n en el sistema \u2014 acept\u00e9 y sal\u00ed de parted.<\/p>\n

Monto la partici\u00f3n \u2014 todo OK. Los archivos est\u00e1n en su lugar, todo bien, pero el tama\u00f1o sigue siendo el antiguo de 14 GB. Desmont\u00e9 \/dev\/sdd1 y hago resize2fs \/dev\/sdd1, luego e2fsck \/dev\/sdd1 y monto nuevamente y veo la partici\u00f3n expandida con todos los archivos y funcionando. <\/p>\n

Todo termin\u00f3 bien tanto para m\u00ed como para el administrador.
