Hace nueve a\u00f1os, en la revista Nature Communications, los investigadores del MIT <noindex><\/a>publicaron un informe<\/a><\/noindex>, en el que informaron sobre el desarrollo de una tecnolog\u00eda interesante para alinear mol\u00e9culas de polietileno. En su estado normal, el polietileno, al igual que otros pol\u00edmeros, se asemeja a un revuelto de muchos grumos de espaguetis pegados. Esto hace que el pol\u00edmero sea un excelente aislante t\u00e9rmico, pero los cient\u00edficos siempre han anhelado algo inusual. \u00a1Ser\u00eda genial crear un pol\u00edmero capaz de conducir calor tan bien como los metales! Y para ello, solo se necesita alinear las mol\u00e9culas del pol\u00edmero para que puedan transportar calor a trav\u00e9s de monocanales desde la fuente hasta el lugar de disipaci\u00f3n. El experimento fue exitoso. Los cient\u00edficos lograron crear fibras individuales de polietileno con excelente conductividad t\u00e9rmica. Pero para su implementaci\u00f3n en la industria, esto no fue suficiente.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Los radiadores para procesadores pueden volverse de pl\u00e1stico y no es una conspiraci\u00f3n de los fabricantes\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/7c3ae585ced639a710913d3fd8e9698d.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hoy, el mismo grupo de cient\u00edficos del MIT ha publicado un nuevo informe sobre pol\u00edmeros conductores de calor. En los \u00faltimos nueve a\u00f1os se ha realizado un gran trabajo. En lugar de fabricar fibras individuales, los investigadores <noindex><\/a>desarrollaron y crearon<\/a><\/noindex> una instalaci\u00f3n piloto para la fabricaci\u00f3n de un recubrimiento t\u00e9rmico en forma de pel\u00edcula. Adem\u00e1s, para crear estas pel\u00edculas conductoras de calor, se utiliz\u00f3 un material com\u00fan, a diferencia de la materia prima \u00fanica de hace nueve a\u00f1os, es decir, polietileno en polvo comercial para la industria.<\/p>\n<p>En una instalaci\u00f3n experimental, el polvo de polietileno se disuelve en un l\u00edquido y luego la mezcla se roc\u00eda sobre una placa enfriada con nitr\u00f3geno l\u00edquido. Despu\u00e9s de esto, la pieza se calienta y se estira en una m\u00e1quina de laminado hasta obtener un estado de pel\u00edcula delgada, del grosor de un envoltorio. Las mediciones mostraron que la pel\u00edcula de polietileno conductora de calor fabricada de esta manera tiene un coeficiente de conductividad t\u00e9rmica de 60 W\/(m\u00b7K). Para comparar, este indicador para el acero es de 15 W\/(m\u00b7K), y para el pl\u00e1stico com\u00fan, de 0,1\u20130,5 W\/(m\u00b7K). El mejor rendimiento en conductividad t\u00e9rmica lo tiene el diamante, con 2000 W\/(m\u00b7K), pero tambi\u00e9n es un buen resultado superar a los metales en conductividad t\u00e9rmica.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/center><\/p>\n<p>El pol\u00edmero t\u00e9rmico tambi\u00e9n tiene una serie de otras cualidades importantes. As\u00ed, el calor se conduce estrictamente en una direcci\u00f3n. Imaginen un port\u00e1til o un smartphone que disipa el calor de los procesadores sin un sistema de refrigeraci\u00f3n activa.
