El lenguaje APL se caracteriza por su optimizaci\u00f3n para trabajar con arreglos de cualquier nivel de anidaci\u00f3n y por su soporte a n\u00fameros complejos, lo que lo hace demandado para c\u00e1lculos cient\u00edficos y procesamiento de datos. A principios de la d\u00e9cada de 1970, la idea de una m\u00e1quina APL impuls\u00f3 la creaci\u00f3n de la primera computadora personal del mundo, la IBM 5100. APL tambi\u00e9n fue muy popular en las computadoras sovi\u00e9ticas a principios de los a\u00f1os 80.
