Desarrolladores yaxim<\/a><\/noindex>, cliente XMPP de c\u00f3digo abierto para la plataforma Android<\/a><\/noindex>, celebra<\/a><\/noindex> el d\u00e9cimo aniversario del proyecto. Hace diez a\u00f1os, el 23 de agosto de 2009, se realiz\u00f3 el primer commit<\/a><\/noindex> de yaxim, lo que significa que hoy este cliente XMPP es oficialmente dos veces m\u00e1s joven que el protocolo con el que funciona. Desde entonces, ha habido muchos cambios tanto en XMPP como en el sistema Android.<\/p>\n

2009: inicio<\/h3>\n

En 2009, la plataforma Android todav\u00eda era completamente nueva y carec\u00eda de un cliente IM gratuito. Hab\u00eda rumores y anuncios, pero nadie hab\u00eda publicado c\u00f3digo funcional. La primera pista concreta fue la presentaci\u00f3n de los estudiantes alemanes Sven y Chris, que presentaron su proyecto de semestre YAXIM \u2014 Yet Another XMPP Instant Messenger<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

. Recibieron algunas cartas amistosas, crearon un proyecto en GitHub y continuaron escribiendo c\u00f3digo. A finales de a\u00f1o, se mostr\u00f3 otra corta presentaci\u00f3n<\/a><\/noindex>. Un gran problema de yaxim en ese momento era la entrega confiable de mensajes, pero poco a poco todo mejor\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Cambios significativos<\/h3>\n

En 2010, YAXIM fue renombrado a yaxim para parecerse m\u00e1s a un nombre y menos a un acr\u00f3nimo llamativo. En 2013, se cre\u00f3 el proyecto Bruno<\/a><\/noindex>, como el hermano menor de yaxim, un cliente XMPP para ni\u00f1os y todos aquellos que aman a los animales. Actualmente tiene casi 2000 usuarios activos.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n en 2013 se lanz\u00f3 el servidor XMPP yax.im<\/a><\/noindex>, principalmente para facilitar el uso de yaxim y Bruno, as\u00ed como para tener un servidor estable y confiable, adecuado para clientes m\u00f3viles.<\/p>\n

Finalmente, en 2016, yaxim recibi\u00f3 su actual logotipo, la imagen de un yak.<\/p>\n

Din\u00e1mica de desarrollo<\/h3>\n

Desde el primer d\u00eda, yaxim ha sido un proyecto amateur, sin apoyo comercial y sin desarrolladores permanentes. A lo largo de los a\u00f1os, su c\u00f3digo creci\u00f3 bastante lentamente, siendo 2015 un a\u00f1o especialmente poco productivo. A pesar de que yaxim tiene m\u00e1s instalaciones en Google Play que Conversations<\/a><\/noindex>, este \u00faltimo, como dicen algunos, es el cliente principal en Android y es muy popular entre los usuarios de XMPP. Sin embargo, al menos en los \u00faltimos tres a\u00f1os, no ha habido una disminuci\u00f3n en la cantidad de dispositivos en los que yaxim est\u00e1 instalado (Google no proporciona estad\u00edsticas hasta 2016).<\/p>\n

Problemas actuales<\/h3>\n

La base de c\u00f3digo de yaxim (Smack 3.x, ActionBarSherlock) est\u00e1 bastante desactualizada y actualmente se est\u00e1n realizando muchos esfuerzos para que yaxim se vea bien en los dispositivos Android modernos (dise\u00f1o material) y soporte funciones actuales, como los di\u00e1logos interactivos de permisos y la gesti\u00f3n de bater\u00eda, as\u00ed como el protocolo Matrix<\/a><\/noindex> (que no siempre funciona<\/a><\/noindex>). Las versiones de prueba con los \u00faltimos desarrollos est\u00e1n disponibles a trav\u00e9s del canal beta<\/a><\/noindex> en Google Play.<\/p>\n
