El proyecto LinuxBoot ha estado en marcha durante casi dos a\u00f1os y ha logrado importantes avances en este tiempo. Este proyecto se posiciona como una alternativa abierta a los firmwares UEFI propietarios. Sin embargo, hasta hace poco, el sistema era bastante limitado. Ahora, Chris Koch de Google present\u00f3<\/a><\/noindex> present\u00f3 una nueva versi\u00f3n en el marco del Security Summit 2019.<\/p>\n

Cabe destacar que la primera placa base con firmware LinuxBoot fue la Intel S2600wf. Tambi\u00e9n se utiliz\u00f3 en los servidores Dell R630. Especialistas de Google, Facebook, Horizon Computing Solutions y Two Sigma participan en el proyecto.<\/p>\n

En el marco de LinuxBoot se desarrollan todos los componentes relacionados con el n\u00facleo de Linux, sin que est\u00e9n vinculados a un hardware espec\u00edfico del entorno de ejecuci\u00f3n. Para inicializar el hardware se utilizan Coreboot, Uboot SPL y UEFI PEI. Esto permitir\u00e1 bloquear la actividad en segundo plano de UEFI, SMM e Intel ME, as\u00ed como aumentar la seguridad, ya que a menudo los firmware propietarios est\u00e1n repletos de \"fallos\" y vulnerabilidades de seguridad.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, seg\u00fan algunos informes, LinuxBoot puede acelerar el arranque de los servidores decenas de veces al eliminar c\u00f3digo no utilizado y realizar diversas optimizaciones. Sin embargo, los fabricantes han sido reacios a adoptar LinuxBoot. No obstante, este enfoque hacia el c\u00f3digo abierto podr\u00eda cambiar en el futuro, ya que el uso de firmwares abiertos aumenta la probabilidad de detectar vulnerabilidades y agiliza el proceso de correcci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
