El ataque ha sido denominado <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/tpm.fail\/\">TPM-Fail<\/a><\/noindex> y se refiere al fTPM (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/support\/articles\/000007452\/mini-pcs.html\">implementaci\u00f3n de software<\/a><\/noindex> basada en firmware, que opera en un microprocesador separado dentro de la CPU) de Intel (CVE-2019-11090) y hardware TPM en chips de STMicroelectronics <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.st.com\/en\/secure-mcus\/st33tphf20i2c.html\">ST33<\/a><\/noindex> (CVE-2019-16863).<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/VernamGroup\/TPM-Fail\">publicaron<\/a><\/noindex> un prototipo de herramienta para llevar a cabo el ataque y demostraron la posibilidad de recuperar una clave privada de 256 bits, utilizada para crear firmas digitales empleando algoritmos basados en curvas el\u00edpticas ECDSA y EC-Schnorr. Dependiendo de los derechos de acceso, el tiempo total del ataque en sistemas Intel fTPM es de 4 a 20 minutos y requiere analizar entre 1,000 y 15,000 operaciones. Para atacar sistemas con el chip ST33, se requieren aproximadamente 80 minutos y el an\u00e1lisis de unas 40,000 operaciones de generaci\u00f3n de firma digital. <\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores tambi\u00e9n demostraron la posibilidad de realizar un ataque remoto en redes de alta velocidad, que permiti\u00f3 en una red local con un ancho de banda de 1 GB, en condiciones de laboratorio, recuperar la clave privada en cinco horas, tras medir el tiempo de respuesta de 45,000 sesiones de autenticaci\u00f3n con un servidor VPN basado en software strongSwan, que almacena sus claves en un TPM susceptible a vulnerabilidades.<\/p>\n<p>El m\u00e9todo de ataque se basa en el an\u00e1lisis de las diferencias en el tiempo de ejecuci\u00f3n de las operaciones durante la generaci\u00f3n de firmas digitales. La evaluaci\u00f3n de la latencia durante los c\u00e1lculos permite determinar informaci\u00f3n sobre bits individuales durante la multiplicaci\u00f3n escalar en operaciones con curvas el\u00edpticas. Para ECDSA, determinar incluso unos pocos bits con informaci\u00f3n sobre el vector de inicializaci\u00f3n (nonce) es suficiente para llevar a cabo un ataque de recuperaci\u00f3n secuencial de toda la clave privada. Para la realizaci\u00f3n exitosa del ataque, se requiere analizar el tiempo de generaci\u00f3n de varias miles de firmas digitales creadas sobre datos conocidos por el atacante.<\/p>\n<p>Vulnerabilidad <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.st.com\/content\/st_com\/en\/campaigns\/tpm-update.html\">se solucion\u00f3<\/a><\/noindex> la empresa STMicroelectronics en una nueva versi\u00f3n de chips, en la que la implementaci\u00f3n del algoritmo ECDSA se ha eliminado de las correlaciones con el tiempo de ejecuci\u00f3n de las operaciones. Es interesante que los chips de STMicroelectronics afectados por el problema tambi\u00e9n se utilizan en equipos que cumplen con el nivel de seguridad CommonCriteria (CC) EAL 4+. Los investigadores tambi\u00e9n han examinado los chips TPM de las empresas Infineon y Nuvoton, pero en ellos no hay fugas basadas en cambios en el tiempo de c\u00e1lculo.<\/p>\n<p>En los procesadores Intel, el problema se presenta desde el lanzamiento de la familia Haswell en 2013. Se observa que un amplio espectro de port\u00e1tiles, PCs y servidores de diversos fabricantes, incluidos Dell, Lenovo y HP, es vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>La empresa Intel incluy\u00f3 una correcci\u00f3n en <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.intel.com\/technology\/2019\/11\/ipas-november-2019-intel-platform-update-ipu\/\">noviembre<\/a><\/noindex> la actualizaci\u00f3n de firmware, que adem\u00e1s del problema en cuesti\u00f3n, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/security-center\/advisory\/intel-sa-00241.html\">se ha solucionado<\/a><\/noindex> tambi\u00e9n aborda 24 vulnerabilidades, de las cuales nueve se han clasificado con un nivel de peligro alto y una como cr\u00edtica. Para los problemas mencionados, solo se proporciona informaci\u00f3n general; por ejemplo, se menciona que la vulnerabilidad cr\u00edtica (CVE-2019-0169) se debe a la posibilidad de causar un desbordamiento de memoria en ambientes de Intel CSME (Converged Security and Management Engine) e Intel TXE (Trusted Execution Engine), lo que permite a un atacante elevar sus privilegios y acceder a datos confidenciales.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n se puede destacar <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jovanbulck\/0xbadc0de\">la divulgaci\u00f3n<\/a><\/noindex> de los resultados de la auditor\u00eda de varios SDK para el desarrollo de aplicaciones que interact\u00faan con c\u00f3digo ejecutado en enclaves aislados. Con el objetivo de identificar funciones problem\u00e1ticas que pueden ser utilizadas para realizar ataques, se examinaron ocho SDK: <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/intel\/linux-sgx\">Intel SGX-SDK<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/lsds\/sgx-lkl\">SGX-LKL<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/openenclave.io\/sdk\/\">Microsoft OpenEnclave<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/grapheneproject.io\/\">Graphene<\/a><\/noindex>,<br \/>\n<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/fortanix.com\/products\/runtime-encryption\/edp\/\">Rust-EDP<\/a><\/noindex> y <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/blog\/products\/gcp\/introducing-asylo-an-open-source-framework-for-confidential-computing\">Google Asylo<\/a><\/noindex> para Intel SGX, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/keystone-enclave.org\/\">Keystone<\/a><\/noindex>  para RISC-V y <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/distrinet.cs.kuleuven.be\/software\/sancus\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sancus<\/a><\/noindex> para Sancus TEE. Durante la auditor\u00eda se encontraron <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jovanbulck\/0xbadc0de\/blob\/master\/ccs19-tale.pdf\">detectado<\/a><\/noindex> 35 vulnerabilidades, a partir de las cuales se desarrollaron varios escenarios de ataque que permiten extraer claves AES del enclave o provocar la ejecuci\u00f3n de su c\u00f3digo creando condiciones para da\u00f1ar el
