GitHub result\u00f3<\/a><\/noindex> es vulnerable a un ataque que permite obtener acceso a la cuenta manipulando caracteres Unicode en el correo electr\u00f3nico. El problema radica en que algunos caracteres Unicode, al aplicar funciones de conversi\u00f3n a min\u00fasculas o may\u00fasculas, se traducen a s\u00edmbolos comunes que son similares en apariencia (cuando varios caracteres diferentes se traducen a un solo s\u00edmbolo \u2014 por ejemplo, el car\u00e1cter turco «ı» y «i» se convierten en «I» al ser puestos en may\u00fasculas).<\/p>\n

Antes de verificar los par\u00e1metros de inicio de sesi\u00f3n en algunos servicios y aplicaciones, los datos proporcionados por el usuario se convierten primero a may\u00fasculas o min\u00fasculas y luego se verifican en la base de datos. En GitHub, el atacante pudo<\/a><\/noindex> iniciar el env\u00edo de un c\u00f3digo de recuperaci\u00f3n a otro email a trav\u00e9s del formulario de recuperaci\u00f3n de contrase\u00f1a olvidada al proporcionar un email que inclu\u00eda un car\u00e1cter Unicode que causa colisi\u00f3n (por ejemplo, en lugar de mike@example.org se indicaba el email mı<\/b>ke@example.org).
