Inicialmente, el proyecto fue fundado por la organizaci\u00f3n Yorba Foundation, que cre\u00f3 el popular gestor de fotos Shotwell, pero posteriormente el desarrollo pas\u00f3 a manos de la comunidad GNOME. El c\u00f3digo est\u00e1 escrito en el lenguaje Vala y se distribuye bajo la licencia LGPL. Las compilaciones listas estar\u00e1n disponibles pr\u00f3ximamente en forma de paquete independiente <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.gnome.Geary.flatpakref\">flatpak<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo del desarrollo del proyecto es crear un producto rico en funciones, pero extremadamente sencillo de usar y que consuma un m\u00ednimo de recursos. El cliente de correo est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado tanto para su uso independiente como para trabajar junto con servicios de correo basados en la web, como Gmail y Yahoo! Mail. La interfaz se implementa utilizando la biblioteca GTK3+. Para almacenar la base de mensajes se utiliza una base de datos SQLite, y se crea un \u00edndice de texto completo para la b\u00fasqueda en la base de mensajes. Actualmente, hay disponibles complementos para reproducir sonido al enviar un correo, crear plantillas de correos, integraci\u00f3n con el men\u00fa de la interfaz Unity y organizar env\u00edos a listas de direcciones en un archivo CSV.
