Joshua Strobl, Budgie desktopâs lead developer, announced his departure from the Core Team of the Solus project and relinquished his role as the Experience Lead responsible for developer relations and user interface development. Beatrice/Bryan Meyers, who is in charge of the technical aspect of Solus, assured that the distributionâs development will continue and that an announcement regarding the project structure change and team restructuring will be made soon.
In turn, Joshua Strobl explained that he intends to get involved in the development of the new distribution, SerpentOS, which the original creator of Solus has also shifted to. Thus, the old Solus team will rally around the SerpentOS project. Joshua also does not abandon plans to port the Budgie desktop environment from GTK to EFL libraries and intends to devote more time to Budgieâs development. Furthermore, he plans to create a separate organization to oversee the development of the Budgie environment and involve community members interested in Budgie, such as the Ubuntu Budgie and Endeavour OS distributions.
Joshua cites a conflict arising from efforts to voice and address issues hindering the progression of changes in Solus, both from direct project participants and from interested community members, as the reason for his departure. Joshua does not disclose details of the conflict to avoid airing grievances publicly. It is mentioned only that all his attempts to change the situation and improve collaboration with the community were rejected, and none of the raised issues were resolved.
It is worth noting that the Linux distribution Solus is not based on packages from other distributions and follows a hybrid development model, during which significant releases are periodically issued that offer new technologies and substantial improvements, while between these major releases, the distribution evolves using a rolling package update model. The package manager eopkg (a fork of PiSi from Pardus Linux) is used for package management.
Budgie töölaua baasil on GNOME tehnoloogiad, kuid see kasutab oma versioone GNOME Shellist, paneelist, applist ja teavitussĂŒsteemist. Budgies kasutatakse akende haldamiseks Budgie Aken Haldur (BWM), mis on tĂ€iustatud versioon pĂ”hipluginast Mutter. Budgie aluseks on paneel, mis sarnaneb ĂŒlesehituselt klassikaliste töölaua paneelidega. KĂ”ik paneeli elemendid on appletid, mis vĂ”imaldab paindlikult seadistada kompositsiooni, muuta paigutust ja asendada paneeli pĂ”hielementide rakendusi vastavalt oma maitsele.
