On the platform of collaborative development, Forgejo 9.0 has been released, allowing deployment of a system for collaborative work with Git repositories on your own servers, similar to GitHub, Bitbucket, and GitLab in terms of tasks solved. Forgejo is a fork of the Gitea project, which was in turn branched from the Gogs platform. The separation of Forgejo occurred in 2022 after attempts to commercialize Gitea and the transition of management into the hands of a commercial company. The Forgejo project adheres to the principles of independent governance and community control. The Git hosting Codeberg.org has transitioned to using Forgejo. The project's code is written in Go and is distributed under the MIT license.
The key features of the platform include low resource consumption (can be used on a Raspberry Pi or on inexpensive hardware VPS) ja lihtne paigaldusprotsess. - The use of SSH keys instead of passwords for authentication of mirroring operations has been allowed.
- For Git operations, only the backend based on the standard Git tools has been retained. The go-git backend, which implements Git in Go, has been removed, simplifying support and allowing the development of Forgejo without regard to the functionality of go-git and eliminating issues related to repository corruption that arose in go-git.
- The session provider based on the Couchbase DBMS has been removed, as it depends on non-free software with limited testing capabilities.
