Linus Torvalds, the creator of the Linux kernel, and Linus Sebastian, the author of the YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips, filmed a joint video in which they attempted to assemble the perfect PC for Linux, while discussing component selection and talking about kernel development and Torvalds' hobbies.
The computer was equipped with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9960X CPU, Intel Arc B580 graphics card, GIGABYTE TRX50 AERO D motherboard, Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB SSD, Noctua NH-U14S TR5-SP6 cooler, Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 1600W 80+ Titanium power supply, and a 31.5-inch ASUS ProArt PA32QCV (6K HDR) monitor. Notably, on his previous workstation, Torvalds also used an AMD Ryzen Threadripper (3970x) CPU. The hardware was selected to ensure seamless operation with standard drivers from the vanilla Linux kernel. Among the selection features was the use of ECC memory, a near-silent cooler if possible, and the Intel Arc B580 graphics card instead of the expected AMD Radeon series for such a configuration. Torvalds uses Fedora as his distribution.
