Flathubis on keelatud AI abil genereeritud rakenduste paigutamine.

Bart Piotrowski, who manages the infrastructure of the Flathub application catalog, announced changes to the Flathub rules that prohibit the use of AI for both developing applications hosted in the catalog and automating the publishing process on Flathub. The rules apply to published applications, add-ons, manifest files, metadata, patches, build scripts, pull requests, and any artifacts created through flatpak-builder.

Previously, the rules allowed the placement of applications and changes, part of which was generated through AI and underwent manual review. The new rules prohibit the publication of applications that contain any code, documentation, and other components created with the involvement of AI, although there is a possibility of providing individual exceptions for mature and well-maintained projects. The restrictions only apply to new projects published after the rules change and will not affect already published applications in the catalog created with AI.

In a note, Bart mentioned that large language models can be a useful tool and over time, less code will be created without their involvement. However, the reality is that authors of programs created through AI often are not willing to put in the effort to create and refine a full product and merely act as intermediaries, assigning tasks to the AI agent and publishing the result. It was stated that Bart is tired of the recent conflicts with arrogant authors that have arisen over the past month following the refusal to accept raw programs created through AI into the catalog. According to Bart, such authors behave as if they are gifting genius software while some idiots refuse to accept it.
