Evgeny Golyshev, who maintains Elixir for Debian/Ubuntu, has published a working prototype of the Win32/Linux system C:\Deb based on Debian 13, offering a Windows-like environment built on Wine and components borrowed from ReactOS, running on top of the Linux kernel. The user environment of the system utilizes Wine Explorer and is styled like Windows 95/98. Two images are available for testing: a raw image for running in QEMU and a VDI disk for VirtualBox, as well as scripts and instructions for building the system independently. The C:\Deb project is inspired by a similar system Loss32, which was expected to be released in January this year but never materialized.
