After two years since the last release, the Zentyal 8.1 server Linux distribution has been published, based on the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS package base, specializing in creating servers for servicing local networks in medium and small businesses. Among other things, the distribution is positioned as an alternative to Windows Server and includes components to replace Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange Server services. The iso image size is 4.5 GB. A commercial edition of the distribution is available separately, but the Zentyal component packages are accessible to Ubuntu users through the standard Universe repository.
Management of the distribution is performed through a web interface, which forms about 40 modules for managing network, network services, office serverilt and enterprise infrastructure components. It supports quick setup of a network gateway, firewall, mail serverilt, VoIP (Asterisk), VPN server, proxy (squid), file server, collaboration system for employee interaction, monitoring system, backup server, unified threat management system, user login organization through Captive portal, etc. After installation, each of the supported modules is immediately ready to perform its functions. Configuration of all modules is done through a system of interactive wizards and does not require manual editing of configuration files.
Among the changes in the new release:
- Updated isolation profiles based on Apparmor.
- In the antivirus module, the Clamav antivirus package version has been updated, and process isolation rules for Clamd have been improved.
- In the intrusion prevention module (ips), the suricata-update command has been added for initial configuration and updating of the Suricata package.
- In the web interface, progress indication for operations has been improved.
- In the mail server management module, a function for editing email addresses has been added. The account setup interface has been improved. An option to disable SSL certificate validation in the fetchmail service has been introduced.
- In the network settings module, the interface for deleting VLAN has been redesigned. Netplan configuration has been updated.
- The ntp module has been switched from using NTP to NTPsec.
- Samba moodulis on vÀrskendatud NSS ja PAM haldust. Domeeni taseme muutmine on lubatud veebiliidese kaudu. Kasutajate importimise ja exportimise liides on tÀiustatud.
