State-of-the-art NetworkManager 1.46.0 interface release simplifies network settings configuration. VPN support plugins (Libreswan, OpenConnect, Openswan, SSTP, and more) are developed within their own development cycles.
Key features of NetworkManager 1.46:
- Support for building with Python2 has been discontinued. Python3 is now mandatory. Support for systemd versions <200 has ended.
- The 'connection.stable-id' parameter now allows the use of the variable '${NETWORK_SSID}' to generate a persistent identifier based on the Wi-Fi network SSID.
- Support for the value 'wifi.cloned-mac-address=stable-ssid' has been added to account for MAC address randomization for WLAN.
- Support for udev properties ID_NET_AUTO_LINK_LOCAL_ONLY=1 and ID_NET_MANAGED_BY has been added.
- In the nmcli utility, output IP-aadresse and routes is limited to 10 lines. The number of IP addresses and routes transferred via D-Bus is capped at 100, with an update frequency limited to 3 changes per second.
- In the cloud-setup service file for systemd, additional sandbox isolation settings have been included.
- nmcli now displays Wi-Fi bandwidth.
- Support for wireless devices operating in the 6GHz band has been enabled.
- Support for Ethtool EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) settings has been added.
- A parameter to prevent the automatic addition of edns0 and trust-ad options in DNS settings has been introduced.
- A property for fwmark has been implemented for IP tunnels.
- Support for the HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy) and PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) protocols has been added.
- Static routes can now be configured with an empty IP address.
- IPv4 DAD (Duplicate Address Detection) mode is enabled by default.
- Kuna VPN Support for two-factor authentication implemented on the VPN plugin side has been provided.
- Support for hardware acceleration checks for MACsec (IEEE 802.1AE) has been added.
- The ability to create prototype devices through external 'device-handler' has been introduced.
