R\u00fcnnakule on antud koodnimi Blacksmith ja identifikaator CVE-2021-42114. Paljud DDR4 kiibid, millel on kaitse varem teadaolevate RowHammer meetodite vastu, on selle probleemiga haavatavad. Oma s\u00fcsteemide haavatavuse testimiseks m\u00f5eldud t\u00f6\u00f6riistakomplekt on avaldatud GitHubis.            <\/p>\n<p>Tuletame meelde, et RowHammer-t\u00fc\u00fcpi r\u00fcnnakud v\u00f5imaldavad moonutada \u00fcksikute m\u00e4lu bittide sisu, lugedes ts\u00fckliliselt andmeid naaberm\u00e4lu rakkudest. Kuna DRAM m\u00e4lu on kahe m\u00f5\u00f5tmega rakkude massiiv, millest iga\u00fcks koosneb kondensaatorist ja transistorist, toob sama m\u00e4luala pidev lugemine kaasa pingefluktuatsiooni ja anomaaliaid, mis p\u00f5hjustavad naaberrekku v\u00e4ikese laadimise kadumise. Kui lugemisintensiivsus on suur, v\u00f5ib naaberrekku kaotada piisavalt suures koguses laengut, ja j\u00e4rgmine regeneratsioonits\u00fckkel ei j\u00f5ua taastada selle algset seisundit, mis toob kaasa selle raku andmete v\u00e4\u00e4rtuse muutumise.    <\/p>\n<p>RowHammeri kaitsmiseks on kiibitootjad pakkunud TRR (Target Row Refresh) mehhanismi, mis kaitseb naaberreas olevate m\u00e4lukandjate moonutamise eest. Kuid kuna kaitse p\u00f5hines \u201eturvalisusel l\u00e4bi ebaselguse\u201d p\u00f5him\u00f5ttel, ei lahendanud see probleemi p\u00f5hjalikult ja kaitses ainult teadaolevate erijuhtude eest, v\u00f5imaldades kergesti leida kaitse \u00fcmbersuunamise viise. N\u00e4iteks mai kuus pakkus Google v\u00e4lja meetodi Half-Double, millele TRR kaitse ei m\u00f5ju, kuna r\u00fcnnaku k\u00e4igus puudutati m\u00e4lukandeid, mis ei asunud otseselt sihtm\u00e4rgiga k\u00fclgnevates reas.    <\/p>\n<p>Uus meetod Blacksmith pakub teistsugust l\u00e4henemist TRRi kaitse \u00fcletamiseks, mis p\u00f5hineb kahe v\u00f5i enama agressiivse rea eba\u00fchtlasel k\u00e4sitlemisel erineva sagedusega, et tekitada laengu lekkimist. Laengu lekke p\u00f5hjustava m\u00e4luelevi mustri m\u00e4\u00e4ramiseks on v\u00e4lja t\u00f6\u00f6tatud spetsiaalne fuzzer, mis valib automaatselt r\u00fcnnaku parameetrid konkreetse kiibi jaoks, varieerides rakkudele juurdep\u00e4\u00e4su j\u00e4rjekorda, intensiivsust ja s\u00fcsteemsust.      <\/p>\n<p>Sarnane l\u00e4henemine, mis ei ole seotud \u00fche ja sama m\u00e4luraku m\u00f5juga, muudab TRR-i kaitsemeetodid ebaefektiivseks. Need meetodid tuginevad m\u00e4lurakkudele tehtud korduvate p\u00f6\u00f6rdumiste arvu lugemisele ning teatud arvude saavutamisel naaberakkude \u00fclelaadimise algatamisele. Blacksmithi all p\u00e4\u00e4suga malle jagatakse kohe mitme raku vahel, mis asuvad erinevatelt k\u00fclgedelt sihtm\u00e4rgist, v\u00f5imaldades laadimise leket ilma k\u00fcnniste saavutamiseta.        <\/p>\n<p>Meetod osutus oluliselt efektiivsemaks kui varem ettepanekud TRR \u00fcmbersuunamiseks \u2014 uurijatel \u00f5nnestus moonutada bite k\u00f5igis 40 erinevas DDR4 m\u00e4lukiibis, mille tootjad olid Samsung, Micron, SK Hynix ja tundmatu tootja (4 chipi tootjat ei olnud m\u00e4rgitud). V\u00f5rdluseks osutus sama uurijate poolt varem pakutud meetod TRRespass efektiivseks vaid 13-l 42 testitud kiibil sel ajal.       <\/p>\n<p>\u00dcldiselt arvatakse, et Blacksmith meetod on rakendatav 94% k\u00f5ikidest turul olevatest DRAM-kiipidest, kuid teadlaste teatel on m\u00f5ned kiibid haavatavamad ja lihtsamad r\u00fcnnaku sihtm\u00e4rgid kui teised. Veakorrekteerimise koodide (ECC) rakendamine kiipides ja m\u00e4lue v\u00e4rskendussageduse kahekordistamine ei paku t\u00e4ielikku kaitset, kuid muudab r\u00fcnnakute sooritamise keerukamaks. On t\u00e4helepanuv\u00e4\u00e4rne, et probleemi ei saa juba turule lastud kiipides blokeerida ja see n\u00f5uab uue riistvarap\u00f5hise kaitse rakendamist, mist\u00f5ttu j\u00e4\u00e4b r\u00fcnnak aktuaalseks veel paljude aastateks.         <\/p>\n<p>Praktiliste n\u00e4idetena on toodud Blacksmithi rakendamise meetodid m\u00e4lulehe sisu muutmiseks (PTE, page table entry) tuumaproviliigi saamiseks, OpenSSH-s salvestatud RSA-2048 avaliku v\u00f5tme kahjustamine (avalikku v\u00f5tit saab sobitada r\u00fcndaja privaatv\u00f5tmega, et p\u00e4\u00e4seda h\u00e4kkija VM-le) ja autoriseerimise kontrollimise m\u00f6\u00f6da minemine sudo protsessi m\u00e4lu muutmise kaudu, et saada root-i \u00f5igusi.
