R\u00fcnnakule on antud koodnimi Blacksmith ja ID CVE-2021-42114. Probleemi all kannatavad paljud DDR4-kiibid, mis on varustatud r\u00fcnnakute eest kaitsevahenditega, mis on suunatud varem tuntud RowHammer-r\u00fcnnakute vastu. N\u00e4iteks maikuus pakkus Google v\u00e4lja meetodi Half-Double, mille vastu TRR kaitse ei toiminud, kuna r\u00fcnnak h\u00f5lmas rakke, mis ei olnud otse sihtm\u00e4rgiga k\u00fclgnevad.    <\/p>\n<p>Uus meetod Blacksmith pakub teistsugust teed TRR-i kaitse \u00fcmbersuunamiseks, mis p\u00f5hineb mitmekesises l\u00e4henemises kahele v\u00f5i enamale agressiivsele reale, et p\u00f5hjustada laengu kadu. M\u00e4lu osutamise mustri m\u00e4\u00e4ramiseks, mis toob kaasa laengu lekkimise, on v\u00e4lja t\u00f6\u00f6tatud spetsiaalne fuzzer, mis automaatselt kohandab r\u00fcnnakuparametreid konkreetse kiibi jaoks, varieerides rakenduse j\u00e4rjekorda, intensiivsust ja s\u00fcsteemset l\u00e4henemist rakkudele.      <\/p>\n<p>Sarnane r\u00fcnnak, mis ei ole seotud sama m\u00e4luraku m\u00f5jutamisega, muudab TRR-i kaitsemeetodid ebat\u00f5husaks, mis k\u00f5ik p\u00f5hinevad korduvate p\u00e4ringute arvestamisel rakkudele ning teatud piiride saavutamisel naaberrakkude laadimise taask\u00e4ivitamise algatamisel. Blacksmithi juures juurdep\u00e4\u00e4su mall hajub koheselt mitmele rakule tootest eemal, mis v\u00f5imaldab saavutada laadi leket ilma k\u00fcnniste saavutamiseta.        <\/p>\n<p>Meetod osutus oluliselt t\u00f5husamaks kui varasemad TRR kaitse \u00fcmbersuunamise viisid \u2014 teadlastel \u00f5nnestus saavutada bitimoonutusi k\u00f5igis 40 hiljuti ostetud erinevas Samsungi, Microni, SK Hynixi ja tundmatu tootja DDR4 m\u00e4lukiibis (4 kiibi puhul tootjat ei n\u00e4idatud). V\u00f5rdluseks: sama teadlaste poolt varem pakutud TRRespass meetod osutus efektiivseks vaid 13-l 42 testitud kiibil.       <\/p>\n<p>\u00dcldiselt eeldatakse, et Blacksmithi meetod on rakendatav 94% k\u00f5ikidest turul olevatest DRAM-i kiibidest, kuid teadlaste v\u00e4itel on m\u00f5ned kiibid haavatavamad ja kergemini r\u00fcnnatavad kui teised. Vigade paranduse koodide (ECC) ja m\u00e4luv\u00e4rskenduse sageduse kahekordistamise rakendamine kiipides ei paku t\u00e4ielikku kaitset, kuid teeb r\u00fcnnaku keerulisemaks. M\u00e4rkimisv\u00e4\u00e4rne on see, et probleemide lahendamise meetod ei saa juba v\u00e4lja antud kiipides blokeerida ja n\u00f5uab uute kaitsemehhanismide rakendamist riistvaratasemel, mist\u00f5ttu j\u00e4\u00e4b see r\u00fcnnak tulevikus veel paljusid aastaid relevantses.         <\/p>\n<p>Praktiliste n\u00e4idete hulka kuuluvad Blacksmithi meetodi rakendamine m\u00e4lulehtede tabeli (PTE, page table entry) sissekande sisu muutmiseks, et saavutada tuumaprevilige, rikkuda m\u00e4llu salvestatud RSA-2048 avalikku v\u00f5tit OpenSSH-s (avalikku v\u00f5tit saab muuta vastavusse r\u00fcndaja privaatv\u00f5tmega, et luua \u00fchendus ohvri VM-iga) ning autoriteedi kontrollimise l\u00e4bimine sudo protsessi m\u00e4lumuudatuste kaudu root \u00f5iguste saamiseks.
