Varasemalt kasutas send\/receive puhul saatja pool surutud andmeid lahti ja vastuv\u00f5tja kasutas neid uuesti surumisel enne salvestamist. Kernalis 5.18 on kasutajaruumi rakendustele, mis kasutavad send\/receive kutsungit, antud v\u00f5imalus edastada surutud andmeid ilma uuesti pakkimata. Funktsionaalsus on rakendatud uute ioctl-operatsioonide BTRFS_IOC_ENCODED_READ ja BTRFS_IOC_ENCODED_WRITE kaudu, mis v\u00f5imaldavad otse lugeda ja kirjutada teavet ekstensioonidesse.\n<p>Lisaks on Btrfs-s suurenenud fsync-i j\u00f5udlus. On lisatud deduplication ja reflink (faili metaandmete kloonimise v\u00f5imalus, luues viite juba olemasolevatele andmetele ilma nende tegeliku kopeerimiseta) funktsioon, mis kehtib kogu salvestusruumi, mitte ainult mountimispunktide osas.         <\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> Otsese sisendi \/ v\u00e4ljundi (Direct I\/O) re\u017eiimis on tagatud ligip\u00e4\u00e4s kr\u00fcpteeritud failidele, kasutades fscrypt inline-kr\u00fcptimist, milles kr\u00fcptimise ja dekr\u00fcptimise toimingud viiakse l\u00e4bi salvestusseadmest, mitte k\u00e4rgist. Tavalise k\u00e4rgi viibimisega kr\u00fcptimise korral ei ole juurdep\u00e4\u00e4s kr\u00fcpteeritud failidele otse sisendi \/ v\u00e4ljundi kaudu v\u00f5imalik, kuna failide juurde p\u00e4\u00e4semine toimub kerneli m\u00e4lubufferdamise mehhanismi vahelej\u00e4tmise kaudu.\n<li class=\"l\"> NFS-serveris on vaikimisi lubatud NFSv3 protokolli tugi, mida n\u00fc\u00fcd ei pea eraldi aktiveerima ning mis on \u00fcldiselt NFS-i lubamise korral saadaval. NFSv3 peetakse p\u00f5hiversiooniks ja see on alati toetatud versioon NFS-st, samas kui NFSv2 toe l\u00f5petamine v\u00f5ib tulevikus toimuda. Oluliselt on paranenud kataloogide sisu lugemise efektiivsus.\n<li class=\"l\"> Failis\u00fcsteem ReiserFS on liigitatud vananenuks ja kavatsetakse eemaldada 2025. aastaks. Kood on eemaldatud, kuna puudub hooldus ja NDS32 toetuse n\u00f5udlus Linuxi p\u00f5hituumas (j\u00e4\u00e4nud kasutajad kasutavad spetsialiseeritud kerneli kooste tootjate poolt).\n<li class=\"l\"> Vaikimisi on v\u00e4lja l\u00fclitatud kerneli koostamine a.out t\u00e4idetav failiformaadi toe jaoks arhitektuuridele alpha ja m68k, kus seda formaati endiselt kasutatakse.
