PrusaSlicer \u2014 see slicer<\/a>, meaning a program that takes a 3D model in the form of a mesh made of regular triangles and converts it into a special control program for a 3D printer. For example, in the form of G-code<\/a> jaoks FFF printers<\/a>, which contains detailed instructions on how to move the print head (extruder) in space and how much hot plastic to extrude through it at a specific moment in time. Besides G-code, this version also added the generation of layers of raster images for photopolymer mSLA printers. Although PrusaSlicer was developed with an eye on open-source printers Prusa<\/a>, it can create G-code compatible with any modern printer based on the developments of RepRap<\/a>, including those with firmware Marlin<\/a>, Prusa (a Marlin fork), Sprinter, and Repetier. There is also the possibility of generating G-code supported by Mach3 controllers, LinuxCNC<\/a> ja Machinekit<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PrusaSlicer is a fork of Slic3r<\/a>, which was developed by Alessandro Ranelucci and the RepRap community. Up to version 1.41, the project was known as Slic3r Prusa Edition, also known as \u2014 Slic3r PE. The fork inherited the unique and not very user-friendly interface of the original Slic3r, so the developers from Prusa Research at some point created a separate simplified interface for Slic3r PE \u2014 PrusaControl<\/a>. However, later, during the development of Slic3r PE 1.42, it was decided to completely redo the original interface, incorporating some developments from PrusaControl and halting the development of the latter. A significant redesign of the interface and the addition of a large number of new features became the basis for renaming the project.<\/p>\n

One of the distinguishing features of PrusaSlicer (like Slic3r) is the presence of a large number of settings that give the user control over the slicing process.<\/p>\n

PrusaSlicer is mainly written in C++, distributed under the AGPLv3 license, and works on Linux, macOS, and Windows.<\/p>\n
