Sellistes kiipides rakendatakse peamisi binaarseid tehteid (AND, NAND, OR, NOR ja XOR) loogikaventiilide (l\u00fclitite) abil, millel on mitu sisendit ja \u00fcks v\u00e4ljund, ning \u00fchenduste konfiguratsiooni saab programmeerimisega muuta.      <\/p>\n<p>OSFPGA asutajate hulka kuuluvad m\u00f5ned t\u00e4helepanuv\u00e4\u00e4rsed FPGA-tehnoloogiate teadlased, kes esindavad selliseid ettev\u00f5tteid ja projekte nagu EPFL, QuickLogic, Zero ASIC ja GSG Group. Uue organisatsiooni all arendatakse v\u00e4lja avatud ja tasuta t\u00f6\u00f6riistade komplekti, et kiiresti protot\u00fc\u00fcpe luua FPGA kiipide p\u00f5hjal ja toetada elektroonika projekteerimise automatiseerimise vahendeid (EDA). Organisatsioon juhib ka avatud standardite koost\u00f6\u00f6d, mis on seotud FPGA-dega, pakkudes ettev\u00f5tetele neutraalse platvormi kogemuste ja tehnoloogiate vahetamiseks.      <\/p>\n<p>Oodatakse, et OSFPGA tegevuse t\u00f5ttu saavad kiibitootjad v\u00e4hendada m\u00f5ningaid inseneriprotsesse FPGA tootmisel, l\u00f5ppkasutajate arendajad saavad valmis kohandatud tarkvarakihi FPGA-le ja luuakse koost\u00f6\u00f6 uute kvaliteetsete arhitektuuride v\u00e4ljat\u00f6\u00f6tamiseks.
