Joka vuosi British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) palkitsee elokuvien ja TV-sarjojen lisäksi myös videopelejä. Usein BAFTA Games Awardsissa kaikkia muita palkintoja voittaneita projekteja ei nimetty vuoden parhaaksi peliksi: esimerkiksi Fallout 4 voitti The Witcher 3:n, ja viime vuonna What Remains of Edith Finch voitti yhtäkkiä titaanin. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Mutta tänä vuonna ei ollut yllätyksiä - God of War voitti.
Pelissä on yhteensä viisi palkintoa – kriitikot panivat merkille myös sen äänisuunnittelun, musiikin ja narratiivin, ja samalla palkittiin Jeremy Daviesin roolistaan Balderina. Return of the Obra Dinn voitti kaksi patsasta pelisuunnittelusta ja taiteen ohjauksesta. Nintendo voitti kaksi muuta – Nintendo Labo -setit voittivat "Paras perhepeli" ja "Innovatiivisin peli" -kategorioissa.
Suurin yllätys oli nimitys "Best British Game". Näytti siltä, ettei Red Dead Redemption 2:lla ollut kilpailijoita täällä, mutta tuomaristo valitsi sen sijaan Forza Horizon 4:n. Lisäksi Rockstarin aivotuote ei lopulta saanut yhtään palkintoa.
