Sam Hartman, leader of the Debian project, while trying to resolve the disagreements between the maintainers of the elogind packages (an interface for running GNOME 3 without systemd) and libsystemd, caused by conflicts between these packages and the recent refusal of the team responsible for preparing releases to include elogind in the testing branch, considered the possibility of supporting multiple initialization systems in the distribution.
If project members vote in favor of diversifying initialization systems, all maintainers will be involved in collaborative efforts to solve this issue, or specific responsible developers will be appointed to work on it, and the maintainers will no longer be able to ignore the alternative initialization system, remain silent, or delay the process.
