Invisible to everyone, the development team released CentOS 8.1 – a completely free version of the commercial distribution from Red Hat.
The new features are similar to those in RHEL 8.1 (excluding some modified or removed utilities):
- The kpatch utility is available for "hot" (no reboot required) kernel updates.
- The eBPF (Extended Berkeley Packet Filter) utility has been added – a virtual machine for running code in kernel space.
- Support for changing the encryption of the devices used in LUKS2 has been added.
- The graphical DRM subsystem has been updated to that from kernel version 5.1, enabling support for a wider range of graphics cards.
