La version 8.4 de Rocky Linux a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9e, visant \u00e0 cr\u00e9er une nouvelle distribution libre de RHEL, capable de remplacer l'ancienne version classique de CentOS, apr\u00e8s que Red Hat a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de mettre fin au support de CentOS 8 \u00e0 la fin de 2021, plut\u00f4t qu'en 2029 comme pr\u00e9vu initialement. Il s'agit de la premi\u00e8re version stable du projet, consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme pr\u00eate pour les d\u00e9ploiements en production. Les versions de Rocky Linux sont pr\u00e9par\u00e9es pour les architectures x86_64 et aarch64. <\/p>\n

La distribution est enti\u00e8rement binaire compatible avec Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4. Comme dans l'ancien CentOS, les modifications apport\u00e9es aux paquets consistent \u00e0 \u00e9liminer la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la marque Red Hat. Le projet est dirig\u00e9 par Gregory Kurtzer, le fondateur de CentOS. En parall\u00e8le, une entreprise commerciale, Ctrl IQ, a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e pour le d\u00e9veloppement de produits avanc\u00e9s bas\u00e9s sur Rocky Linux et pour soutenir la communaut\u00e9 des d\u00e9veloppeurs de cette distribution, ayant re\u00e7u 4 millions de dollars d'investissements. La distribution Rocky Linux promet d'\u00e9voluer de mani\u00e8re ind\u00e9pendante de Ctrl IQ sous la direction de la communaut\u00e9. Des entreprises comme Google, Amazon Web Services, GitLab, MontaVista, 45Drives, OpenDrives et NAVER Cloud ont \u00e9galement rejoint le d\u00e9veloppement et le financement du projet. <\/p>\n

En plus de Rocky Linux, les alternatives \u00e0 l'ancien CentOS 8 incluent VzLinux (pr\u00e9par\u00e9 par Virtuozzo), AlmaLinux (d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par CloudLinux en collaboration avec la communaut\u00e9) et Oracle Linux. De plus, Red Hat a offert la possibilit\u00e9 d'utiliser RHEL gratuitement dans les organisations d\u00e9veloppant des logiciels open source et dans les environnements des d\u00e9veloppeurs individuels comptant jusqu'\u00e0 16 syst\u00e8mes virtuels ou physiques.
