Des d\u00e9veloppeurs de Red Hat et Collabora ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un pilote Vulkan open source nvk pour les cartes graphiques NVIDIA, qui viendra compl\u00e9ter les pilotes existants dans Mesa : anv (Intel), radv (AMD), tu (Qualcomm) et v3dv (Broadcom VideoCore VI). Le d\u00e9veloppement du pilote se fait sur la base du projet Nouveau en utilisant certaines sous-syst\u00e8mes pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment appliqu\u00e9s dans le pilote OpenGL Nouveau. <\/p>\n

Parall\u00e8lement, au sein de Nouveau, un travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 pour extraire une biblioth\u00e8que fonctionnelle universelle, qui peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e dans d'autres pilotes. Par exemple, des composants pour la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de code ont \u00e9t\u00e9 extraits dans cette biblioth\u00e8que, pouvant \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s pour partager le compilateur de shaders entre les pilotes OpenGL et Vulkan. <\/p>\n

Le d\u00e9veloppement du pilote Vulkan est assur\u00e9 par Karol Herbst, d\u00e9veloppeur de Nouveau chez Red Hat, David Airlie, mainteneur de la sous-syst\u00e8me DRM chez Red Hat, et Jason Ekstrand, d\u00e9veloppeur actif de Mesa chez Collabora. Le pilote est en phase de d\u00e9veloppement pr\u00e9coce et n'est pas encore adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 d'autres applications que le lancement de l'outil vulkaninfo. La n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d'un nouveau pilote est due \u00e0 l'absence de pilotes Vulkan open source pour les cartes graphiques NVIDIA, alors que de plus en plus de jeux utilisent cette API graphique ou s'ex\u00e9cutent sous Linux via des couches qui traduisent les appels Direct3D en API Vulkan.
