Le paquet comprend un processus en arri\u00e8re-plan pppd, utilis\u00e9 pour n\u00e9gocier la connexion, l'authentification et la configuration de l'interface r\u00e9seau, ainsi que des utilitaires d'assistance pppstats et pppdump. Le code du projet est distribu\u00e9 sous licence BSD. Le paquet assure officiellement la prise en charge de Linux et Solaris (le code pour NeXTStep, FreeBSD, SunOS 4.x, SVR4, Tru64, AIX et Ultrix est inclus sans support).    <\/p>\n<p>La pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente version majeure 2.4.0 a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9e en 2000. L'augmentation significative du num\u00e9ro de version est due \u00e0 des modifications disruptives de la compatibilit\u00e9 avec les plugins pour pppd, ainsi qu'\u00e0 une r\u00e9\u00e9criture compl\u00e8te du syst\u00e8me de construction. Parmi les am\u00e9liorations :  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Ajout du support du protocole d'authentification PEAP (Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol).\n<li class=\"l\"> Ajout de la possibilit\u00e9 de charger des fichiers contenant des certificats et des cl\u00e9s au format PKCS12.\n<li class=\"l\"> Proposition d'un environnement de construction bas\u00e9 sur GNU Autoconf et Automake. Prise en charge ajout\u00e9e de pkgconfig.\n<li class=\"l\"> API largement remani\u00e9e pour le d\u00e9veloppement de plugins pour pppd.\n<li class=\"l\"> Arr\u00eat du support du protocole IPX.\n<li class=\"l\"> Installation de l'ex\u00e9cutable pppd sans le flag suid root supprim\u00e9e.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nouvelles options ajout\u00e9es \u00e0 pppd : ipv6cp-noremote, ipv6cp-nosend,
