Le programme n'est pas li\u00e9 aux syst\u00e8mes d'exploitation et peut \u00eatre ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 directement \u00e0 partir du BIOS\/UEFI ou d'un chargeur de d\u00e9marrage pour effectuer un test complet de la m\u00e9moire vive. En cas de d\u00e9tection de probl\u00e8mes, la carte des secteurs d\u00e9fectueux int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 Memtest86+ peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e dans le noyau Linux pour exclure les zones probl\u00e9matiques \u00e0 l'aide de l'option memmap.
