Une nouvelle version de la distribution Linux Mint 21.3, nomm\u00e9e \u00ab Virginia \u00bb (ou Virg\u00ednia pour les amateurs de la vieille \u00e9cole), est sortie discr\u00e8tement \u2014 probablement la plus conviviale et \u00ab peaufin\u00e9e \u00bb des distributions actuellement disponibles. Parmi les am\u00e9liorations cl\u00e9s, les d\u00e9veloppeurs ont mis en avant une meilleure gestion du Secure Boot ainsi que des diff\u00e9rentes versions de BIOS et UEFI.<\/p>\n

De plus, plusieurs applications ont \u00e9t\u00e9 am\u00e9lior\u00e9es (hypnotix, par exemple, a b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 d'une int\u00e9gration avec yt-dlp), le d\u00e9veloppement de l'environnement de bureau Cinnamon se poursuit (de nouveaux types de \u00ab spices \u00bb, comme ils appellent les modules d'extension, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 introduits, et le travail sur l'int\u00e9gration avec Wayland a commenc\u00e9), mais le principal atout reste la collection de fonds d'\u00e9cran artistiques de la marque.<\/p>\n

Cette version est bas\u00e9e sur Ubuntu 22.04 et est support\u00e9e \u00e0 long terme (LTS, jusqu'en 2027). Cependant, des efforts sont \u00e9galement en cours pour rapprocher les fonctionnalit\u00e9s de Linux Mint principal de sa version Debian (LMDE), et les d\u00e9veloppeurs affirment que de nombreux travaux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s dans ce sens avec la 21.3, m\u00eame si la mise \u00e0 jour de LMDE interviendra un peu plus tard. L'objectif est d'atteindre une parit\u00e9 fonctionnelle entre les deux versions, de sorte que Linux Mint dispose d'un v\u00e9ritable \u00ab Plan B \u00bb en cas d'impossibilit\u00e9 de continuer \u00e0 s'appuyer sur Ubuntu. La version est disponible dans les trois variantes traditionnelles (Cinnamon, MATE et Xfce par d\u00e9faut). Selon la tradition \u00e9tablie, Snap a \u00e9t\u00e9 supprim\u00e9 de Linux Mint, et certains des paquets cl\u00e9s qui ont subi la transformation in\u00e9vitable en snap dans Ubuntu (comme Chromium) sont revenus au format debian.<\/p>\n
