Des chercheurs de Gen Threat Labs ont d\u00e9couvert un nouveau rootkit complexe appel\u00e9 Snapekit, qui cible le syst\u00e8me Arch Linux version 6.10.2-arch1-1 sur une architecture x86_64. Snapekit permet aux attaquants d'acc\u00e9der de mani\u00e8re non autoris\u00e9e au syst\u00e8me et de le contr\u00f4ler tout en restant inaper\u00e7us.<\/p>\n

Le rootkit s'int\u00e8gre au fonctionnement du syst\u00e8me d'exploitation en interceptant et en modifiant 21 appels syst\u00e8me \u2014 un m\u00e9canisme de communication entre les applications et le noyau du syst\u00e8me d'exploitation. Snapekit utilise un dropper sp\u00e9cial pour son d\u00e9ploiement. Le rootkit est capable de reconna\u00eetre et d'\u00e9viter des outils d'analyse et de d\u00e9bogage populaires tels que Cuckoo Sandbox, JoeSandbox, Hybrid-Analysis, Frida, Ghidra et IDA Pro. Lorsqu'il d\u00e9tecte l'un de ces outils, Snapekit modifie son comportement pour \u00e9viter d'\u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9.<\/p>\n

La principale t\u00e2che de Snapekit est de masquer le code malveillant tout en restant dans l'espace utilisateur, plut\u00f4t que dans l'espace noyau plus contr\u00f4l\u00e9. Cette approche complique consid\u00e9rablement la d\u00e9tection et l'analyse de la menace. De plus, le rootkit applique des m\u00e9canismes de protection PTrace pour d\u00e9tecter toute tentative de d\u00e9bogage, ce qui ajoute des difficult\u00e9s pour les analystes et les sp\u00e9cialistes en cybers\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Snapekit dispose de moyens d'\u00e9vasion multi-niveaux, permettant d'\u00e9viter non seulement les outils d'analyse automatis\u00e9s (sandboxes et machines virtuelles<\/a>), mais aussi de compliquer l'analyse manuelle. Le cr\u00e9ateur du rootkit, connu sous le pseudo Humzak711, pr\u00e9voit de publier prochainement le projet Snapekit en open source sur GitHub.<\/p>\n
