Andrzej Janik a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 une mise \u00e0 jour du projet ZLUDA, qui d\u00e9veloppe une impl\u00e9mentation ouverte de la technologie CUDA. L'objectif du projet est de permettre l'ex\u00e9cution d'applications CUDA non modifi\u00e9es sur des syst\u00e8mes avec des GPU autres que les GPU NVIDIA, avec des performances proches de celles des applications s'ex\u00e9cutant sans interm\u00e9diaires. Le code du projet est distribu\u00e9 sous les licences MIT et Apache 2.0. <\/p>\n

ZLUDA 4 est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme la premi\u00e8re version form\u00e9e apr\u00e8s le nettoyage de la base de code des \u00e9l\u00e9ments d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s pendant le travail d'Andrzej chez AMD. Depuis 2022, Andrzej a travaill\u00e9 chez AMD sur la cr\u00e9ation d'une couche de compatibilit\u00e9 pour les GPU AMD avec CUDA, mais en 2024, le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 abandonn\u00e9. Conform\u00e9ment aux conditions de son contrat et apr\u00e8s avoir obtenu la permission de publication d'un repr\u00e9sentant d'AMD, Andrzej a ouvert le code des travaux r\u00e9alis\u00e9s pendant son passage chez AMD, permettant l'ex\u00e9cution d'applications CUDA sur la pile ROCm et le runtime HIP (Heterogeneous-computing Interface for Portability). En octobre, Andrzej a \u00e9t\u00e9 contraint de retirer le code de l'acc\u00e8s public apr\u00e8s une lettre d'avocats indiquant que la permission obtenue par e-mail n'avait pas force obligatoire. <\/p>\n

La nouvelle version de ZLUDA est form\u00e9e sur la base de code existant avant le d\u00e9but du travail d'Andrzej chez AMD, n'est pas li\u00e9e \u00e0 un GPU sp\u00e9cifique et se concentre sur l'ex\u00e9cution d'applications utilisant CUDA pour acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer des t\u00e2ches li\u00e9es \u00e0 l'apprentissage automatique et \u00e0 l'intelligence artificielle. Le projet est pour l'instant limit\u00e9 aux GPU AMD, mais sera adapt\u00e9 ult\u00e9rieurement pour les GPU Intel. La sortie de ZLUDA 4 est \u00e9crite en Rust et vise l'ex\u00e9cution du banc d'essai Geekbench 5. <\/p>\n

La nouvelle version comprend un nouveau parseur pour PTX, un langage interm\u00e9diaire utilis\u00e9 dans les GPU NVIDIA. Cette version est \u00e9galement marqu\u00e9e par l'abandon de l'\u00e9mulation des instructions d'incr\u00e9ment et de d\u00e9cr\u00e9ment sp\u00e9cifiques aux GPU NVIDIA, ces instructions \u00e9tant d\u00e9sormais remplac\u00e9es par des instructions similaires pour les GPU AMD. Ces modifications ont permis d'obtenir une am\u00e9lioration des performances lors du test Geekbench d'environ 10%, par rapport \u00e0 OpenCL et \u00e0 la branche ZLUDA 3.
