D\u00e9velopp\u00e9 depuis 1994, il offre une interface \u00e0 deux panneaux dans le style de Norton Commander. Midnight Commander poss\u00e8de des fonctionnalit\u00e9s telles que la prise en charge de la souris, un visualiseur de fichiers int\u00e9gr\u00e9 et un \u00e9diteur de texte avec syntaxe color\u00e9e, l'utilisation de syst\u00e8mes de fichiers virtuels pour naviguer dans des archives, des paquets et des stockages en r\u00e9seau (SFTP, SSH), la connexion de gestionnaires pour diff\u00e9rents types de fichiers, un mode de transition rapide vers le terminal pour ex\u00e9cuter des commandes, ainsi que des signets pour acc\u00e9der aux emplacements fr\u00e9quemment utilis\u00e9s dans le syst\u00e8me de fichiers, et des outils flexibles pour la recherche. Le code du projet est \u00e9crit en C et distribu\u00e9 sous la licence GPLv3+.        <\/p>\n<p>Liste des principales modifications :   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Un module VFS a \u00e9t\u00e9 ajout\u00e9 pour visualiser le contenu des fichiers torrent.\n<li class=\"l\"> Dans les sessions non graphiques, des gestionnaires de console sont par d\u00e9faut utilis\u00e9s pour la lecture du son, l'affichage des images et la lecture des vid\u00e9os.\n<li class=\"l\"> Le support du format de fichiers crate-packets en Rust et des archives ipk utilis\u00e9es dans OpenEmbedded a \u00e9t\u00e9 ajout\u00e9 \u00e0 mc.ext.ini.\n<li class=\"l\"> L'utilisation des \u00e9l\u00e9ments du standard C99 est d\u00e9sormais autoris\u00e9e dans la base de code.
