Le d\u00e9veloppeur Jan Kara de l'entreprise SUSE a propos\u00e9 un correctif supprimant du noyau Linux le code de prise en charge des syst\u00e8mes de fichiers Xenix, SystemV\/386 et Coherent. Ce code est \u00e9tiquet\u00e9 comme non pris en charge (orphelin) depuis 2023, et depuis lors, personne ne s'est manifest\u00e9 pour l'entretenir. Le mainteneur Christian Brauner, responsable des syst\u00e8mes de fichiers dans le noyau, a accept\u00e9 la proposition et a int\u00e9gr\u00e9 le correctif dans la branche vfs-6.15. Il y a quelques heures, le contenu de vfs-6.15 a \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9 dans la branche linux-next, o\u00f9 les modifications pour le futur noyau 6.15 sont pr\u00e9par\u00e9es. <\/p>\n

L'histoire a commenc\u00e9 en 2002, lorsque le noyau Linux a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9barrass\u00e9 du verrouillage global (BKL \u2014 Big Kernel Lock) au profit de verrous plus granulaires. \u00c0 l'\u00e9poque, le syst\u00e8me de fichiers SystemV a effectu\u00e9 la transition vers rwlock, mais cela a entra\u00een\u00e9 des probl\u00e8mes, emp\u00eachant le processeur de passer en mode veille pendant l'appel de toute fonction lisant les m\u00e9tadonn\u00e9es inode. Le probl\u00e8me n'a \u00e9t\u00e9 remarqu\u00e9 qu'en 2023 \u00e0 la suite de tests de stress effectu\u00e9s avec l'outil SyzBot. Un tel incident montre que le syst\u00e8me de fichiers SystemV n'est plus utilis\u00e9 et qu'il peut \u00eatre supprim\u00e9.
