Altair BASIC a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 pour les micro-ordinateurs MITS Altair 8800 et est devenu le premier produit de Microsoft. L'interpr\u00e9teur occupe moins de 4 Ko et peut fonctionner sur des syst\u00e8mes avec 4 Ko de RAM. Bill Gates et Paul Allen n'avaient pas la possibilit\u00e9 d'acheter un ordinateur Altair 8080, c'est pourquoi, lors de son d\u00e9veloppement et de ses tests, ils ont utilis\u00e9 un \u00e9mulateur de processeur Intel 8800 fait maison, ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 sur un syst\u00e8me PDP-10 auquel ils avaient acc\u00e8s. Le code est propos\u00e9 en t\u00e9l\u00e9chargement sous forme de fichier PDF (100 Mo) contenant un scan des impressions papier du code assembleur.
