La diffusion est support\u00e9e en utilisant les formats Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Theora, Opus, FLAC, WebM (VP8\/VP9), ainsi que des codecs propri\u00e9taires tels que MP4 (H.264, MPEG4), M4A, NSV, AAC et MP3. Le code est \u00e9crit en C et distribu\u00e9 sous la licence GPLv2.     <\/p>\n<p>La plateforme a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e comme une alternative au syst\u00e8me propri\u00e9taire Shoutcast et a connu une large adoption au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000 pour la cr\u00e9ation de stations de radio sur Internet. Parall\u00e8lement, le projet d\u00e9veloppe la biblioth\u00e8que libshout pour interagir avec les serveurs bas\u00e9s sur Icecast et le programme IceS pour envoyer des flux audio vers <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/fr\/server\/\"   title=\"serveurs\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1990\">serveurs<\/a> Icecast. Le d\u00e9veloppement est supervis\u00e9 par l'organisation Xiph.Org Foundation.    <\/p>\n<p>La pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente branche majeure, Icecast 2.4, a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9e en 2014.
