Un ing\u00e9nieur de l'entreprise SUSE a propos\u00e9 l'inclusion dans la branche linux-next, qui sert de base \u00e0 la fonctionnalit\u00e9 du noyau Linux 7.1, d'une s\u00e9rie de correctifs supprimant la possibilit\u00e9 de compiler la pile IPv6 sous forme de module du noyau. Les raisons \u00e9voqu\u00e9es sont le d\u00e9sir de r\u00e9duire la complexit\u00e9 et de simplifier la maintenance. La possibilit\u00e9 de compiler IPv6 sous forme de module reste dans le noyau principalement pour des raisons historiques et n'est pas utilis\u00e9e dans les distributions modernes (IPv6 est soit int\u00e9gr\u00e9 dans le noyau, soit compl\u00e8tement d\u00e9sactiv\u00e9). <\/p>\n

Le probl\u00e8me est que lorsque le noyau prend en charge la compilation d'IPv6 en tant que module du noyau (CONFIG_IPV6=m), de nombreux sous-syst\u00e8mes doivent ajouter des gestionnaires inutiles au cas o\u00f9 le module IPv6 serait extrait. Il est donc propos\u00e9 de restreindre les options pour int\u00e9grer IPv6 dans le noyau (CONFIG_IPV6=y) ou de d\u00e9sactiver compl\u00e8tement IPv6 (CONFIG_IPV6=n), ce qui soulagera le sous-syst\u00e8me r\u00e9seau, BPF, Netfilter et certains pilotes de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de traiter le retrait du module.
