Le premier num\u00e9ro de GentleOS, un syst\u00e8me d'exploitation destin\u00e9 aux vieux PC et ordinateurs portables 32 bits, a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9. Ce projet est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par un passionn\u00e9 comme loisir et vise \u00e0 fournir une plateforme simple pour les amateurs de r\u00e9tro-informatique avec une interface graphique classique. Il prend en charge les ordinateurs avec un CPU i386, 4 Mo de RAM et une carte graphique VGA avec une r\u00e9solution de 640\u00d7480. Le code du projet est \u00e9crit en C et est distribu\u00e9 sous la licence GPLv2. Pour son utilisation, une image disque de 8 Mo a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e, ainsi qu'une image pour gravure sur disquette de 1,4 Mo.<\/p>\n

Le syst\u00e8me d'exploitation est construit sur une architecture monolithique et se configure lors de l'assemblage. Des pilotes pour les cartes graphiques VGA\/SVGA, les claviers, les souris (connexion via PS\/2 et port s\u00e9rie) et le haut-parleur int\u00e9gr\u00e9 sont disponibles. La fonctionnalit\u00e9 de GentleOS est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme compl\u00e8te \u2014 les projets futurs incluent uniquement la cr\u00e9ation d'applications suppl\u00e9mentaires, l'optimisation et la correction des bogues. Il peut \u00eatre ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois sur QEMU et sur du mat\u00e9riel r\u00e9el. <\/p>\n

Une variante de GentleOS\/16 est \u00e9galement en d\u00e9veloppement, prenant en charge les syst\u00e8mes 16 bits avec un CPU Intel 80186. Cette version est configur\u00e9e pour \u00eatre lanc\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de disquettes d'une taille de 720 Ko et de 1.4 Mo. Elle fonctionne sur des PC avec 192 Ko de RAM et un adaptateur graphique CGA (320x200x4). <\/p>\n
