Linus Torvalds a publi\u00e9 le sixi\u00e8me num\u00e9ro de test hebdomadaire du futur noyau Linux 5.3. Cette version co\u00efncide avec le 28\u00e8me anniversaire de la sortie de la premi\u00e8re version de ce noyau d'un nouveau syst\u00e8me d'exploitation \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n

Torvalds a reformul\u00e9 son premier message \u00e0 ce sujet pour l'annonce. Le voici :<\/p>\n

«Je d\u00e9veloppe un syst\u00e8me d'exploitation (gratuit) (c'est plus qu'un simple passe-temps) pour des clones 486 AT et de nombreuses autres solutions mat\u00e9rielles. Cela a m\u00fbri au cours des 28 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, et rien n'est encore fait. J'aimerais avoir des retours sur d'\u00e9ventuels bugs pr\u00e9sents dans cette version (ou sur des bugs plus anciens, si cela s'applique)», a \u00e9crit le d\u00e9veloppeur.<\/p>\n

En m\u00eame temps, la majeure partie du patch 5.3-rc6 concerne la mise \u00e0 jour des pilotes pour les dispositifs r\u00e9seau. Bien qu'il y ait aussi d'autres corrections. Torvalds a not\u00e9 qu'une version RC8 n'est pas exclue. Quant \u00e0 la version stable, la sortie de Linux 5.3 est attendue dans deux ou trois semaines. <\/p>\n

Rappelons que Torvalds a publi\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re version 0.0.1 le 25 ao\u00fbt 1991, apr\u00e8s cinq mois de d\u00e9veloppement. La premi\u00e8re version publique du noyau contenait environ 10 000 lignes de code source et pesait 62 Ko en version compress\u00e9e. Le noyau Linux moderne compte plus de 26 millions de lignes de code.<\/p>\n

Comme mentionn\u00e9, le d\u00e9veloppement approximatif d'un tel projet from scratch «co\u00fbterait» entre 1 et 3 milliards de dollars.<\/p>\n
