Le projet LinuxBoot existe depuis presque deux ans et, au cours de cette p\u00e9riode, il a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 des progr\u00e8s significatifs. Ce projet se positionne comme une alternative ouverte aux firmwares UEFI propri\u00e9taires. Cependant, jusqu'\u00e0 r\u00e9cemment, le syst\u00e8me \u00e9tait assez limit\u00e9. Mais maintenant, Chris Koch de Google a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9<\/a><\/noindex> une nouvelle version lors du Security Summit 2019.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 noter que la premi\u00e8re carte m\u00e8re avec le firmware LinuxBoot \u00e9tait l'Intel S2600wf. Elle a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9e dans les serveurs Dell R630. Des sp\u00e9cialistes de Google, Facebook, Horizon Computing Solutions et Two Sigma participent au projet.<\/p>\n

Dans le cadre de LinuxBoot, tous les composants li\u00e9s au noyau Linux se d\u00e9veloppent sans \u00eatre li\u00e9s \u00e0 un environnement d'ex\u00e9cution sp\u00e9cifique. Pour l'initialisation du mat\u00e9riel, on utilise Coreboot, Uboot SPL et UEFI PEI. Cela permettra de bloquer l'activit\u00e9 en arri\u00e8re-plan de l'UEFI, du SMM et de l'Intel ME, tout en am\u00e9liorant la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, car les firmwares propri\u00e9taires contiennent souvent de nombreuses \u00ab failles \u00bb et vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9s en mati\u00e8re de s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

De plus, selon certaines sources, LinuxBoot permet de multiplier par dix la vitesse de d\u00e9marrage d'un serveur gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la suppression de code inutilis\u00e9 et diverses optimisations. Cependant, les fabricants sont encore r\u00e9ticents \u00e0 passer \u00e0 LinuxBoot. Cela dit, cette attitude envers l'open source pourrait changer \u00e0 l'avenir, car l'utilisation de firmwares ouverts augmente les chances de d\u00e9tection des vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9s et acc\u00e9l\u00e8re le processus de correction.<\/p>\n
