GitHub s\u2019est retrouv\u00e9<\/a><\/noindex> sujet \u00e0 une attaque permettant de prendre le contr\u00f4le d'un compte en manipulant des caract\u00e8res Unicode dans un email. Le probl\u00e8me est que certains caract\u00e8res Unicode, lorsqu'ils sont convertis en minuscules ou en majuscules, sont traduits en caract\u00e8res ordinaires semblables (lorsque plusieurs caract\u00e8res diff\u00e9rents sont traduits en un seul caract\u00e8re \u2014 par exemple, le caract\u00e8re turc «ı» et «i» lors de la conversion en majuscules deviennent «I»).<\/p>\n

Avant de v\u00e9rifier les param\u00e8tres de connexion dans certains services et applications, les donn\u00e9es fournies par l'utilisateur sont d'abord converties en majuscules ou en minuscules, puis v\u00e9rifi\u00e9es dans la base de donn\u00e9es. Si le service permet d'utiliser des caract\u00e8res unicode dans le login ou l'email, l'attaquant peut utiliser des caract\u00e8res unicode similaires pour mener une attaque manipulant les collisions dans les tables de conversion de la casse des caract\u00e8res (Unicode Case Mapping Collisions). <\/p>\n

Sur GitHub, l'attaquant pouvait<\/a><\/noindex> initier l'envoi d'un code de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration \u00e0 un autre email via le formulaire de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration de mot de passe oubli\u00e9 en indiquant dans le formulaire une adresse incluant un caract\u00e8re unicode provoquant une collision (par exemple, au lieu de mike@example.org, il fournissait l'email mı<\/b>ke@example.org). L'adresse passait la v\u00e9rification car elle \u00e9tait convertie en majuscules et correspondait \u00e0 l'adresse d'origine (mike@example.org), mais lors de l'envoi du mail, elle \u00e9tait utilis\u00e9e telle quelle et le code de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration \u00e9tait envoy\u00e9 \u00e0 l'adresse frauduleuse (mı<\/b>ke@example.org).<\/p>\n
