Drew DeVault, auteur de l'environnement utilisateur Sway<\/a><\/noindex> et du client de messagerie Aerc<\/a><\/noindex>, par curiosit\u00e9, a tent\u00e9 de pr\u00e9parer une impl\u00e9mentation de Git, \u00e9crite en Shell POSIX. L'id\u00e9e est n\u00e9e d'un d\u00e9bat sur la complexit\u00e9 de la structure interne de Git, apr\u00e8s quoi Drew a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de prouver ses propos en \u00e9crivant en une journ\u00e9e une version fonctionnelle de Git en Shell pur. Au cours de son travail, Drew a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 qu'il avait peut-\u00eatre \u00e9t\u00e9 un peu trop optimiste sur la simplicit\u00e9 en raison de l'utilisation dans Git d'un format binaire d'index, qui n'est pas tout \u00e0 fait adapt\u00e9 au Shell. Mais il \u00e9tait trop tard pour faire marche arri\u00e8re et, en se contorsionnant, il a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser Git sur Shell. <\/p>\n

Le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 shit<\/a><\/noindex> (Shell Git) et se positionne exclusivement comme une exp\u00e9rience pour \u00e9tudier les entrailles de Git, non destin\u00e9 \u00e0 un usage pratique. En plus des constructions d\u00e9finies dans le Shell POSIX, le code utilise plusieurs extensions GNU, fonctionnant dans BusyBox. Il est \u00e9galement n\u00e9cessaire d'avoir la biblioth\u00e8que zlib. La fonctionnalit\u00e9 pr\u00e9par\u00e9e est suffisante pour effectuer un commit dans un d\u00e9p\u00f4t git.
