Charlie Somerville, d\u00e9veloppant le syst\u00e8me d'exploitation comme un hobby CrabOS<\/a><\/noindex> en Rust, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9<\/a><\/noindex> projet humoristique mais fonctionnel DOS Subsystem for Linux<\/a><\/noindex> (DSL), pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme une alternative au sous-syst\u00e8me WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par Microsoft pour ceux qui pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent travailler dans DOS. Comme le sous-syst\u00e8me WSL, DSL permet d'ex\u00e9cuter directement des applications Linux, mais pas depuis Windows, plut\u00f4t depuis l'interface de commande MS-DOS ou FreeDOS. Les codes sources du sous-syst\u00e8me sont distribu\u00e9s<\/a><\/noindex> sont sous licence AGPLv3. <\/p>\n

L'environnement DOS avec la couche DSL peut \u00eatre lanc\u00e9 sous forme de machine virtuelle QEMU ou install\u00e9 sur du mat\u00e9riel r\u00e9el<\/a><\/noindex>. L'ex\u00e9cution des programmes Linux se fait \u00e0 l'aide de l'outil dsl, de mani\u00e8re analogue \u00e0 l'outil wsl. La mise en \u0153uvre du projet est fond\u00e9e sur le fait que Linux, lors de son chargement, laisse intacte le premier m\u00e9gaoctet de m\u00e9moire. DOS utilise cette m\u00e9moire, ainsi les environnements DOS et Linux ne se chevauchent pas et peuvent coexister. Le fonctionnement de DSL se r\u00e9sume \u00e0 organiser le passage \u00e0 Linux et le retour du contr\u00f4le \u00e0 DOS apr\u00e8s l'ach\u00e8vement du processus, de mani\u00e8re similaire \u00e0 ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place dans les premi\u00e8res versions de Windows.<\/p>\n
