Odlučili smo pričati o projektima (Kata Containers, Zuul, FATE i CommunityBridge) koji su se nedavno pridružili dvama velikim fondovima i o tome u kojem smjeru se razvijaju.

Kako je OpenStack Foundation?
OpenStack Foundation (OSF) osnovana je 2012. godine s ciljem razvoja otvorene cloud platforme OpenStack. Organizacija je brzo stekla svoje zajedništvo. Danas OpenStack Foundation ima više od 500 članova. Među njima su telekomi, cloud provideri, proizvođači hardvera pa čak i registratori domena.
Dugo vremena OpenStack Foundation se bavila razvojem svog istoimenog projekta. No na početku godine fond . Organizacija projete vezane uz strojno učenje, CI/CD, edge computing i kontejnerizaciju.
U tom kontekstu nekoliko novih projekata pridružilo se fondu.
O kojim se projektima radi. Na konferenciji Open Infrastructure Summit koja se održala u svibnju, predstavnici OSF govorili su o prvim "novajlijama" — oni su i .
Prvi projekt radi na razvoju sigurnih virtualnih mašina čija je učinkovitost usporediva s učinkovitosti kontejnera Kubernetes i Docker. Fond se bavi promocijom i standardizacijom Linuxa, kao i razvojem ekosustava open-source softvera u cjelini. Portfelj fonda redovito se obogaćuje novim projektima — neki od njih pojavili su se doslovno ovog tjedna.
O kojim se projektima radi. 25. lipnja postao dio Linux Foundation framework FATE. It was transferred to open source by the Chinese bank WeBank and Tencent. The aim of the new solution is companies in developing secure artificial intelligence systems that meet GDPR requirements. At the beginning of the year, the Linux Foundation launched the CommunityBridge platform. It acts as a kind of bridge between developers and investors willing to sponsor open projects. The platform aims to attract new developers to the open-source field.
Despite this, it has already been criticized. Industry experts , stating that the Linux Foundation will provide only minimal financial services, while issues such as contract signing and licensing remain “off the table.” It’s possible that the functionality of CommunityBridge will be expanded in the future.

For example, the Linux Foundation and Facebook are opening a new fund dedicated to the osquery project. Osquery is a framework for monitoring operating systems, used by developers of the social network as well as companies like Airbnb, Netflix, and Uber. This tool allows optimizing the data retrieval process for running processes, loaded kernel modules, and network connections.
It is expected that the Linux Foundation will expand its portfolio again in the near future. They may face the fate of the successful Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which produced Kubernetes and CoreDNS. Or, they might follow in the footsteps of the Tizen fund, whose prospects remain unclear due to of the eponymous operating system.
Both funds — OpenStack Foundation and Linux Foundation — are actively developing their own projects. We will continue to monitor their most interesting “acquisitions.” We will discuss some of them in subsequent materials.
