Odlu\u010dili smo pri\u010dati o projektima (Kata Containers, Zuul, FATE i CommunityBridge) koji su se nedavno pridru\u017eili dvama velikim fondovima i o tome u kojem smjeru se razvijaju.<\/p>\n

Kako je OpenStack Foundation?<\/h2>\n

\nOpenStack Foundation (OSF) osnovana je 2012. godine s ciljem podr\u017eati<\/a><\/noindex> razvoja otvorene cloud platforme OpenStack. Organizacija je brzo stekla svoje zajedni\u0161tvo. Danas OpenStack Foundation nalazi se<\/a><\/noindex> ima vi\u0161e od 500 \u010dlanova. Me\u0111u njima su telekomi, cloud provideri, proizvo\u0111a\u010di hardvera pa \u010dak i registratori domena.<\/p>\n

Dugo vremena OpenStack Foundation se bavila razvojem svog istoimenog projekta. No na po\u010detku godine fond promijenio je smjer<\/a><\/noindex>. Organizacija po\u010dela je podr\u017eavati<\/a><\/noindex> projete vezane uz strojno u\u010denje, CI\/CD, edge computing i kontejnerizaciju.<\/p>\n

U tom kontekstu nekoliko novih projekata pridru\u017eilo se fondu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nO kojim se projektima radi.<\/b> Na konferenciji Open Infrastructure Summit koja se odr\u017eala u svibnju, predstavnici OSF izlo\u017eili<\/a><\/noindex> govorili su o prvim \"novajlijama\" \u2014 oni su postale su<\/a><\/noindex> Kata Containers<\/a><\/noindex> i Zuul<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

Prvi projekt radi na razvoju sigurnih virtualnih ma\u0161ina \u010dija je u\u010dinkovitost usporediva s u\u010dinkovitosti kontejnera Kubernetes i Docker. VM-ovi se u\u010ditavaju brzinom koja ne prelazi 100 ms, stoga \u0107e na\u0107i primjenu u oblaku za raspore\u0111ivanje ra\u010dunalnih resursa \u201eu hodu\u201c. Usput, u razvoju Kata sudjeluje nekoliko velikih IaaS providera.<\/p>\n

Drugi projekt \u2014 Zuul \u2014 predstavlja CI\/CD sustav. Provodi paralelno testiranje izmjena u kodu i sprje\u010dava potencijalne gre\u0161ke.<\/p>\n

Izgledi fonda.<\/b> U OpenStack Foundation ka\u017eu da, preokrenuv\u0161i smjer razvoja, mogu oja\u010dati zajednicu talentiranim programerima. Me\u0111utim, ne misle svi tako \u2014 na svibnjskoj konferenciji, osniva\u010d Canonical-a Mark Shuttleworth navodi<\/a><\/noindex> naziva pro\u0161irenje portfelja fonda \u201egre\u0161kom\u201c. Po njegovom mi\u0161ljenju, OpenStack Foundation neu\u010dinkovito koristi resurse, \u0161to \u0107e se na kraju odraziti na kvaliteti njihovog glavnog proizvoda \u2014 cloud platforme OpenStack. Ho\u0107e li to biti slu\u010daj, ostaje za vidjeti u budu\u0107nosti.<\/p>\n

\u010cime se bavi Linux Foundation<\/h2>\n

\nFond dodeljuje<\/a><\/noindex> se bavi promocijom i standardizacijom Linuxa, kao i razvojem ekosustava open-source softvera u cjelini. Portfelj fonda redovito se oboga\u0107uje novim projektima \u2014 neki od njih pojavili su se doslovno ovog tjedna.<\/p>\n

O kojim se projektima radi.<\/b> 25. lipnja postao dio Linux Foundation postao<\/a><\/noindex> framework FATE. It was transferred to open source by the Chinese bank WeBank and Tencent. The aim of the new solution is to assist<\/a><\/noindex> companies in developing secure artificial intelligence systems that meet GDPR requirements. It includes tools for implementing deep learning methods, logistic regression<\/a><\/noindex> and \u201ctransfer learning<\/a><\/noindex>\u201d (in this case, a pre-trained model is used, adapted for solving other tasks). The source code of the project can be found on GitHub<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the year, the Linux Foundation najavili<\/a><\/noindex> launched the CommunityBridge platform. It acts as a kind of bridge between developers and investors willing to sponsor open projects. The platform aims to attract new developers to the open-source field.<\/p>\n

Despite this, it has already been criticized. Industry experts napominju<\/a><\/noindex>, stating that the Linux Foundation will provide only minimal financial services, while issues such as contract signing and licensing remain \u201coff the table.\u201d It\u2019s possible that the functionality of CommunityBridge will be expanded in the future.<\/p>\n

Izgledi fonda.<\/b> At the end of last year, the Linux Foundation established two new funds for GraphQL<\/noindex> i Ceph<\/a><\/noindex>. The organization plans to continue developing the open-source software ecosystem.<\/p>\n

For example, the Linux Foundation and Facebook planiraju<\/a><\/noindex> are opening a new fund dedicated to the osquery project. Osquery is a framework for monitoring operating systems, used by developers of the social network as well as companies like Airbnb, Netflix, and Uber. This tool allows optimizing the data retrieval process for running processes, loaded kernel modules, and network connections.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the Linux Foundation will expand its portfolio again in the near future. They may face the fate of the successful Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which produced Kubernetes and CoreDNS. Or, they might follow in the footsteps of the Tizen fund, whose prospects remain unclear due to unpopularity<\/a><\/noindex> of the eponymous operating system.<\/p>\n

Both funds \u2014 OpenStack Foundation and Linux Foundation \u2014 are actively developing their own projects. We will continue to monitor their most interesting \u201cacquisitions.\u201d We will discuss some of them in subsequent materials.<\/i><\/p>\n
