A LibreWolf 94 web browser is available, which is a rebuild of Firefox 94 with modifications aimed at enhancing security and privacy. The project is developed by a community of enthusiasts. Changes are published under the MPL 2.0 (Mozilla Public License). Builds are created for Linux (Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Ubuntu, Arch, Flatpak, AppImage), macOS, and Windows.
Among the main differences from Firefox:
- Removal of code related to telemetry transmission, conducting experiments to enable testing features for some users, displaying ad inserts in recommendations while typing in the address bar, and unnecessary advertisements. Any requests to Mozilla servers have been disabled where possible, and background connections have been minimized. Built-in extensions for checking updates, sending crash reports, and integration with the Pocket service have been removed.
- Default use of search engines that preserve privacy and do not track user preferences. Support is provided for the search engines DuckDuckGo, Searx, and Qwant.
- Inclusion of the uBlock Origin ad blocker in the default package.
- Having a firewall for extensions that limits the ability to establish network connections from extensions.
- Consideration of recommendations developed by the Arkenfox project for enhancing privacy and security, as well as blocking features that allow passive browser identification.
- Enabling optional settings that enhance performance.
- Rapid formulation of updates based on the main codebase of Firefox (LibreWolf's new release builds are created within a few days after the Firefox release).
- Disabling proprietary components for viewing DRM (Digital Right Management) protected content by default. To block indirect user identification methods, WebGL is disabled by default. IPv6, WebRTC, Google Safe Browsing, OCSP, and Geo Location API are also disabled by default.
- An independent build system — unlike some similar projects, LibreWolf builds independently, rather than making changes to finalized Firefox builds and not overriding settings. LibreWolf is not linked to the Firefox profile and is installed in a separate directory, allowing it to be used alongside Firefox.
- Fontos beállítások védelme a módosítástól.
